Job Description : SUMMARYThrough the use of games and initiatives, experiential education, outdoor adventures, and group processing and reflection, Prevention technicians promote teamwork, character-development, perseverance and effective communication for youth from a wide range of backgrounds, and of varying ages. This position provides a variety of community-based support, from prevention, planning, and group activities, to coordinating other services. Position provides a natural link between CRNA departments and programs. Reports clinically to an assigned BH Clinician.JOB DUTIESUse outdoor activities to profoundly increase the respect our students have for themselves, each other, their communities and elders, and the natural world.Provide the opportunity for youth, individually and as a group, to practice adversity through skilled decision-making.Lead children, youth, and young adults in all seasons and weather conditions, while safely managing the group in the wilderness and in the classroom space.Provide leadership in various locations and environments, often with little/no direct support, including during wilderness/remote trips such as: rafting, backpacking, dogsledding, hunting, trapping, snow machining, winter camping, fish camp, retreats, etc., as well as full participation in local sports, crafts, & traditional activities.Under direction from the Child & Youth Development program, works in collaboration with local communities to assess drug prevention, social, behavioral, and cultural wellness needs of the community and prioritize such needs to be targeted by the program.Develop strategies, interventions, and/or activities.Responsible for promoting and supporting healthy lifestyles among community members.Responsible for supporting the Child & Youth Development department’s various programs.Advise, coach, and counsel youth and families with empathy, integrity, and boundaries with care, and hope, to youth, families, and community members.Cross-train and assist any and all programs within the department.Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAssociate’s degree in (Outdoor Education, Experiential Education, Outdoor Leadership, Recreation, Youth Ministry, Psychology, Counseling, or related field) or a combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.Youth Group Leadership experienceValid Driver’s License, with satisfactory driving history to qualify for company insurance.Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within ninety (90) days of hire.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in (Outdoor Education, Experiential Education, Outdoor Leadership, Recreation, Youth Ministry, Psychology, Counseling, or related field)Wilderness First Responder/Wilderness EMT, or above.Hunting, Trapping, & Winter Camping in AlaskaLeading multi-day wilderness treks with youth and/or young adults.Personal Fitness Training CertificationRemote leadership/rescue certifications, such as: Swift water Rescue Technician, Whitewater Rescue Technician, Bear Guard, Search & Rescue Technician, etc.NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge and appreciation of Alaska Native culture and lifestyleAbility to safely manage and lead groups on trail experiences in a timely organized manner during all seasons and weather conditions.Critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently while creating a warm welcome atmosphere in a particular program area.Strong risk management practices and awareness, particularly in risk mitigation.Must be able to drive a company vehicle to transport youth and staff.Strong written, analytical, verbal, and interpersonal skills.Effective oral and written communications skills.Skills in operating a personal computer using a variety of computer software.Ability to keep accurate records and produce timely and accurate written reports.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, including outside contacts.Ability to work independently as well as with teams.Ability to facilitate activities for students ranging in age from kindergarten to 12th grade.Ability to design and implement Adventure-based & experiential curriculum.Knowledge of local outdoor activities and opportunities.WORKING CONDITIONSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. (with assistance), during emergency situations, to lead wilderness and sports activities, to inspire youth through doing (rather than discussing), to lead remote work crews, and to participate fully in all areas of health, fitness, and wellness programs. The work requires routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing as much as 100 lbs. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. CRNA is a smoke free and tobacco free campus. May require local travel between compact services of CRNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided when and where needed.SPECIFICATIONSSupervision Received:Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and the general policies and procedures of CRNA.Supervision Exercised:Position will not provide direct supervision.Contacts:Contacts include and not limited to volunteers, organizational staff, clients, and outside agencies.CONDITIONS OF HIREAll employment at CRNA is “at will.” This means that the employee or CRNA may terminate employment at any time and for any reason. All employees must pass an initial and random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.CRNA has several positions that require a criminal background check for the safety of our clients.
