Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Civic Facilities. Departmental supervision is exercised over all personnel within the department.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential FunctionsSolicits and secures national and regional events for the Salem Civic Center and other city facilities.Performs strategic and logistical planning and scheduling for events; manages a variety of creative, design, layout, set-up, installation issues, and operations related to events.Coordinates promotion, advertising, publicity, mailing, and related activities.Manages events and performs settlements of all events with promoters/lessees.Completes financial spreads for accounting of each ticketed event including admission tax and facility fees.Assists with the recruitment and selection of department personnel; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of staff; rewards, disciplines, coaches, counsels, and evaluates staff performance; assists with the development staff schedules; recommends transfers, promotions, suspensions, terminations, and demotions.Assists in planning, coordinating, directing, and maintaining daily civic center, catering, and stadium operations.Assists customers, general public, media, and facility lessees with questions, concerns, and information needs.Assists with the preparation of payroll and oversees employee records; prepares a variety of reports and correspondence.Maintains liaison, contacts, and effective relationships with contractors, lessees, concessionaires, etc.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of practices, methods, and techniques for managing a civic center, stadium, or related facility; thorough knowledge of promotional services and contractual procedures for a broad range of programs, events, and activities; thorough knowledge of business management and accounting practices and procedures; ability to market facility and services; ability to develop, review, and analyze complex plans, contracts, and agreements; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate employees; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with promoters, agents, tour managers, record labels, business owners, artists, and the general public.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree with coursework in business administration, or related field and extensive experience in event management, basic accounting, and managing a civic facility, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical RequirementsThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing and speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking, sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).Special RequirementsCompletion of Public Assembly Facility Management School desirable.Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.Job Type: Full-timePay: $67,092.00 – $108,018.98 per yearBenefits:Dental insuranceHealth insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:8 hour shiftWeekend availabilityEducation:Bachelor’s (Preferred)Experience:Events management: 1 year (Preferred)Work Location: One location
