Job Description : Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage.DEPARTMENT: LibraryHOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.LOCATION: 3600 Denali StreetExample of DutiesThe Director is responsible for developing, coordinating and administering the functions of the Anchorage Public Library, as well as carrying out substantive library program policy determination and its public advocacy. Plan, implement, direct and evaluate all Library areas of activity. Oversee personnel, financial management, library operations, promotion and community relations. Develop and monitor operating and capital budgets, grant applications and gifts. Work with Library support boards to solicit funding from other sources. Develop policies and plans to address the needs of the Library. Coordinate with Municipal agencies, Administration, and community groups. Represent the library at the community, state, and national level. Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesMaster’s degree in Library Science (from an American Library Association accredited program), Education or closely related discipline and ten (10) years of professional supervisory experience that includes managing staff, development, budget administration, implementation maintenance of library programs and services, building collections, and providing service to multicultural communities; and/or equivalent experience in a related field.Preferences: *A second degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Resources, or other related field (Bachelor’s or Masters)Additional Important InformationThe Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
