Biocatalysis has emerged as an essential capability in the preparation of small and large molecules. Our company is currently seeking a Director in Biocatalysis who will continue to grow this technology and its impact. The director reports to the Associate Vice President of Process Research and Development Enabling Technologies at our company’s Research Laboratories and is responsible for management of approximately 10 scientists and for the recruiting, evaluation and development of current and future personnel to their full potential. The lead selects, trains and effectively recommends transfers, merit increases, promotions and closures of personnel under their direction within the framework of Company policy, while establishing a viable succession plan for key positions within the functional area (scientific and management pathways), including their own role.
The incumbent drives scientific excellence and innovation to establish and maintain a world-class Biocatalysis group, responsible for the invention of novel enzymatic methods to support the company’s Pipeline from Discovery to Commercial launch, across all modalities. The leader is responsible for advancing a culture of scientific excellence, identifying emerging trends in Biocatalysis and defining the field through invention of novel catalytic methods driven by fundamental mechanistic principles.
Critical tasks involve proactively identifying and developing impactful new enzymatic methods that impact design across Process Research and Development and Discovery functions, including invention of novel matter and commercial manufacturing route development. They will direct the preparation of and approves disclosures prepared within their department to be used as the basis for patent applications, publications and external presentations.
The Director should be internationally recognized for innovations in Biocatalysis with a strong track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations. Proactive resource planning, project prioritization, risk assessment strategies and budget management are necessary.

Education:
PhD in Biology, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related field plus 5 years of experience
