Job Description : TRAFFIC CALMING PROGRAM COORDINATOR (Assistant Traffic Engineer II) – Range 16E / AMEAJob InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.DEPARTMENT: Traffic EngineeringLOCATION: 4700 Elmore RoadHOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Example of DutiesServe as the program lead for the MOA traffic calming program and provide professional-level independent work responding to citizen traffic complaints under the direction of the Traffic Safety Manager and Municipal Traffic Engineer.Oversee the development and implementation of the department traffic safety program in neighborhoods. Respond to public inquiries, and inquiries forwarded via elected officials, related to traffic safety issues: traffic calming, signage requests, etc.. Review safety issues via site investigations, and provides recommendations for resolution using adopted professional traffic engineering standards (MUTCD, ITE recommended practices, ATMS, ASDS, etc).Provide back-up for drop-in driveway permit requests. Prepare work orders for signage installation and resolve potential issues with signage location. Review agency construction plans for consistency with adopted traffic standards and provide recommendations for revisions, and collaboratively resolve conflicting requirements made by other members of the review team.Coordinate and initiate project design and prioritization with Alaska Department of Transportation, Traffic Engineering Division. Project design includes channelization, signals, signage and striping for municipal projects. Represent the Traffic Division at Community Council meetings to discuss traffic project issues. Perform other related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesBachelor’s degree in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Land Use, or a related discipline, and four (4) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.OREngineer In Training Certificate or professional engineering registration and five (5) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one* (1) *year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.ORMaster’s degree in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Land Use, or a related discipline, and two (2) year of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver’s license by the time of hire.Preferences: State of Alaska Professional Engineering License (5% pay incentive for holding and maintaining this license).Strongly prefer candidates with documented experience in traffic calming implementation.Degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering.Ability to professionally represent the Municipality and interact with the public as well as elected officials.Additional Important InformationPreference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.
