Position : Protection Officer
Job Description : All staff members at Yakima Valley Memorial must be in compliance with our Vaccination Policy, which includes the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine, by their first day of employment.
ROLE SUMMARY
Ensures property protection, crime prevention, emergency response, and guest service functions on the Yakima Valley Memorial (YVM) property.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrols Hospital interior and exterior to deter and detect criminal activity. May also patrol or respond to calls at other YVM locations.
Conducts preliminary investigations of criminal incidents and accidents on Hospital property.
Interfaces with the Yakima Police Department to relay information when needed.
Responds to incidents involving violent individuals at the Hospital and takes steps to de-escalate the situation. Insures safety of individuals in the area of incident.
Responds to incidents involving firearms, knives, or other dangerous weapons.
Prepares narrative incident reports and daily logs.
Conducts security checks to identify security breaches/safety hazards.
Provides assistance and directions to visitors, patients, and employees of the Hospital.
Provides combative patient intervention.
Contacts suspicious persons on Hospital property to determine intent.
Provides security escorts to employees and visitors when needed or requested.
Transports funds between YVM locations.
Works at checkpoints to screen visitors as determined by Security Manager.
Responds to burglar alarm activations at the main campus and/or YVM locations using assigned vehicles.
Responds to fire emergencies and assists with evacuating patients and employees.
Participates in initial and ongoing training.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Completion of a state or federal law enforcement (F.L.E.T.C.) academy required.
Experience: 2 years of experience as a municipal/state/federal/tribal Police Officer, Reserve Police Officer, or Corrections officer required. Experience working in hospital security preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance required. Must possess, and maintain, a Washington State Concealed Weapon License. Must pass a Washington State and F.B.I. Background Check.
