Northrop Grumman’s Chief Information Office is seeking a User Experience (UX) manager to lead the strategy and functional operations of a mid-size UX team, focused on improving the user experience of technology and services. The UX Manager is an accomplished leader who understands how to integrate UX into large, Agile projects and has knowledge of applying UX processes to measure and improve employee-user experiences with technology. The ideal candidate has a strong background in User Experience Design and/or Research, people leadership experience, ability to create and maintain partnerships, and the ability to work across functional disciplines and stakeholders to establish shared understanding.
This position will report to the Business Systems Enterprise Platforms Director and will be located in Falls Church, VA, with an option for teleworking. Occasional travel may be required.
Responsibilities:
Develop and manage the UX strategy for Business Systems
Oversee and develop transformative communication strategies that enable UX strategy, design and research findings to be utilized by the broader organization
Regularly demonstrate the impact of UX approaches on the improvement of technology, services, and innovative solutions
Lead the integration of UX processes and practices into products, services and company strategy
Prioritize requests for support through a strong understanding of business needs
Develop statements of work by working with Product Owners, Stakeholders and SMEs to understand requirements
Grow the understanding and implementation of User-Centered Design within other disciplines, functions and teams
Manage a mid-size team of UX professionals of varying levels including utilization, hiring and career development
Mentor and engage across disciplines, teams and projects
Foster a positive working environment for direct reports
Partner cross-company with other UX leaders to scale user-centered practices at Northrop Grumman

Basic Qualifications:
BS/BA in related field and at least 8 years of professional relevant experience (or 6 years with a Master’s degree); Appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with senior level executive leadership and a wide range of customers ranging from very technical to non-technical, both written and verbal.
Proven ability to work cross-team, synthesize feedback and input from business leaders, customer research/analytics and to design creative solutions.
Knowledge and direct experience with implementing Lean UX practices
Previous hands-on experience with UX Design, Research or UX Development
Ability to evaluate other UX professionals’ design abilities and research knowledge for the purposes of hiring
Experience scaling design and UX research practices for large organizations
Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate a bias for action in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Experience with SAFe agile or leading in an Agile environment
Experience or knowledge of UX prototyping and design applications such as Axure and Adobe Creative Cloud apps
Strong understanding of Digital Transformation including the importance and function of disciplines like DevOps, MBx, and Agile
Previous experience with people leadership
Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with or leadership of a Design Thinking Workshop, Lean UX workshop or similar training and teaching experience
Enterprise employee experience knowledge
Experience creating metrics approaches for measuring employee/user experience in an enterprise setting
IT process knowledge
Direct Digital Transformation experience

Salary Range: $143,500 USD – $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
