Job Description : GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Library Director, this is a professional librarian position with supervisory duties over assigned library personnel. Performs a variety of library duties including Circulation Desk Supervisor, adult, and children’s programming, and provides circulation and reference service to children, teens, and adults. Plays a role in helping plan for the future of the library, as well as identifying current issues. Assigned specialized projects both individually and in a team setting. Shifts may include nights or weekends. The ideal candidate will be able to accomplish all functions and duties listed below as a direct replacement for the current person, though actual duties may vary.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Supervises, trains, evaluates, supports, and manages Library Clerks and the circulation desk.
Assists and supports the Children’s Program Coordinator with selecting, training, and supervising staff for children’s programs.
Creates and maintains the weekly circulation desk schedule.
Aids staff in finding time-off coverage for sick-leave and vacations, as needed.
Serves as the main point of contact for circulation desk staff issues/questions.
Oversees and conducts the library’s adult and teen programs.
Oversees collection development of assigned section with a set budget.
Provides excellent customer service to the community.
Identifies and discusses library issues or problems and proposes solutions to the director.
Performs clerk and reference duties, as needed.
Remains current in library policies and procedures and applies them consistently.
Remains current in resources, services and technologies in the library and information field, and takes an active role in helping plan for the future of the library.
Assists in the development and training of staff and assists in interviewing and hiring new staff.
Assists with support of patrons in use of software. Troubleshoots and addresses problems with public workstations, copiers, printers, scanners, and other technology equipment. Refers problems to the next level, when appropriate.
Performs assigned duties and projects using specialized knowledge and skills.
Attends extra library and training meetings, as assigned.
Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICIATIONS
Education:
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited Institution preferred.
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of library service with progressively responsible experience including demonstrated leadership skills
Knowledge:
Knowledge of management principles and practices
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet, with the ability to assist patrons with computers, tablets and phones
Skills/Abilities
A working knowledge of library principles and practices
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Self-motivated to complete tasks
Ability to establish good staff rapport and work with staff in a positive and constructive manner
Ability to work comfortably with the public
Ability to learn automated circulation system software and library policies and procedures
Ability to create courteous first impression of library
Knowledge of management principles and practices
Flexibility to deal with multiple and unexpected tasks and patrons simultaneously
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet, with the ability to assist patrons with computers, tablets and phones and troubleshoot library equipment
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, perform, and evaluate work assignments with initiative and judgement, independently or with minimal supervision
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to handle conflicts and defuse the situation

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to bend and stoop and reach high places.
Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time.
