Position : Sustainability & Resiliency Officer

Job Description : WORK OBJECTIVE
Performs administrative and professional work related to the implementation of adopted Citywide Sustainability Action Plan, Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan, and Climate Action Plan. Responsible for implementing a sustainability and resilience program that includes messaging and education (internal and external), public programming, future comprehensive planning, departmental coordination, reporting, branding, and promotion. Coordinates and manages projects related to the City’s sustainability and climate resilience programs, acting as project coordinator for efforts such as ordinance revisions, incorporation of sustainability and resilience into relevant plans, coordinating advancement of select objectives and tracking progress.
Identifies funding, analyzing return of investment, updating the Sustainability Action Plan and producing an annual report to be presented to the City Manager and the City Commissioners. Work is performed under the direction of the Grants Manager with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position seeks technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree with a major in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related field; supplemented by five or more years’ of progressively responsible experience in green initiatives, sustainability programs, energy programs, resiliency, environmental quality; or any equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Master’s degree in environmental science/studies or environmental education along with LEED AP designation is preferred.
Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements) or obtain within one year of employment. Must have a valid
Florida driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions to perform this job successfully.
