Job Description : Velocity Sciences is a life sciences company located in Boulder, CO providing high performance assay technologies (HPAs) for medical diagnostics and life sciences research.Velocity Sciences has developed a series of innovations in creating novel RNA constructs for capturing peptide and protein biomarkers with high affinity and specificity. Velocity uses its proprietary biomarker capture technology, in-vitro selection (IVS) processes, and novel detection platforms to create highly sensitive assays for a wide range of applications including intracellular proteomics, high-definition proteomics, and multiplexed biomarker detection from a variety of matrices including serum and tissue samples. As a result, the technology of Velocity Sciences is enabling new tools for systems biology and personalized medicine.Velocity’s technology is the result of many years of research and innovation, which have led to multiple successful partnerships with leading therapeutics and diagnostics companies in the past decade. Velocity is now expanding to address the growing interest in the utility of its RNA technologies and to build an automated production line for generating thousands of unique RNA constructs per year to meet the demand for its life science business.Job Description: Velocity is looking for an experienced leader to direct the team that characterizes RNA constructs and develops protocols around their application in the many use cases and matrices required by our partners and customers. The role will work closely with partners to understand their platforms and aid in the design of protocols for creating HPA technologies. Moreover, Velocity anticipates the need to build out specific assay panels and to kit them for use on multiple platforms and this team would lead the effort in developing and validating the assays and potentially building an applications group that performs fee-for-service activities.Working closely in the lab with the assay research team, the Director is responsible for putting new ideas into practice and ensuring the most stringent quality levels for all assays. As Velocity is still small, the ideal candidate will thrive in an innovative, rapidly evolving, and challenging environment.The Director of Assays and Applications will lead by example, demonstrating an outstanding work ethic, and a “can do attitude” that provides motivation and inspiration for the applications team. It is expected that as required the Director will “roll up their sleeves” to help the team get the job done, and will treat all company employees, stakeholders and collaborators with respect, listening for good ideas regardless of status, and fostering a sense of once in a life-time purpose in the business.Requirements: A successful candidate will have hands-on laboratory experience with and knowledge of a broad set of techniques including:· Biological assay development including nucleic acid and protein detection· Molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, transcription, gel purification)· Next-Gen Sequencing· Characterization of biomolecule binding interactionsCandidates are expected to have the following level of prior experience:· PhD in a biologically or chemically related discipline and at least 5 years’ experience in assay development in either diagnostics or life sciences more broadly.or· MS in a biologically or chemically related discipline and at least 10 years’ experience in assay development in either diagnostics or life sciences more broadly.Application Information: If you seek a challenging career in biotechnology in a rapidly growing company where innovation, creativity and hard work are rewarded Velocity Sciences wants you to apply.
