Responsible for the integrity of all front-end business functions that support excellent patient-centered customer service.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Greets and welcomes all patients and visitors in a warm professional manner. Adheres to behaviors and conduct that contributes to excellent patient service.Ensures that complete and accurate demographic and financial information has been populated into the electronic medical record by interviewing the patients and collecting and recording all necessary information for registration of a patient.Ensures patient receives necessary Medicare/Medicaid disclosures, MSP verification and privacy information, including, but not limited to, education regarding the Charity policy and the hospital’s billing procedures. Obtains all necessary legal and financial signatures.Demonstrates a culture of safety in daily operations. Works as a patient advocate to help identifies needs of patients e.g., transportation, interpreter, wheelchair assistance.Collects patient payments including payments on account, copays, coinsurance and deductibles as applicable.Coordinates van scheduling with outpatient departments.Schedules follow up patient appointments.Answers hospital main telephone line and redirects call to appropriate department.General copying duties and other duplicating needs as requested.Other business and customer service functions as required by Patient Access Manager.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma/GED or 1 year previous experience in Patient Registration, Financial Counseling, or Health Unit Coordinator.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1 year of professional experience in a medical office or customer service setting. Basic knowledge of medical terminology.ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to accurately type a minimum of 35 wpm.Payment collection, reconciliation, and cash handling skills.Good working knowledge of English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.Ability to work with constant interruptions.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Strong interpersonal communication skills.Calm and professional disposition.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Dedication to maintaining confidentiality of all patient records.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work effectively with visitors, patients, and staff. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Sit for long periods at a time, bend, walks, or stoop intermittently. Lift up to 15 lbs.
