Summary

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Resident Advisor oversees and maintains custody, care and control of residents, while enforcing the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the company and contracting agency.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Protects children/resident health, safety, and well-being.
Responsible for knowing which children/residents responsible for.
Responsible for child care services for each assigned child/children; know where they are at all times.
Must be aware of and accountable for each child’s/residents ongoing activity.
Must provide the level of supervision necessary to ensure each child’s safety and well-being, including auditory and visual awareness of each child’s ongoing activity as appropriate.
Able to intervene when necessary to ensure each child’s safety. In deciding how closely to supervise a child, the resident advisor must take into account; the child’s age, the child’s individual differences and abilities; the indoor and outdoor layout of the operation; surrounding circumstances, hazards, and risks; and the child’s physical, mental, emotional, and social needs.
Must be aware of the children’s habits, interests, and any special needs.
Provides a safe environment.
Cultivates developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned but flexible program activities.
Positively reinforces children’s efforts and accomplishments.
Ensures continuity of care for children by sharing with incoming resident adviser’s information about each child’s activities during the previous shift and any verbal or written information or instructions given by the resident or other professionals.
Implements and follows the children’s service plans.
Oversees and monitors the activities of residents/children in living areas, recreation activities areas, dining areas and visitation areas.
Provides supervision and care for minor children in the event the adult caregiver is not able to do so.
May be assigned to various posts including, but not limited to, control room, front and sally port entrances, health services, special housing, perimeter security, transportation, work details, reception, intake, and visits officer, etc., as required by management.
Provides security in program activities and supervises labor crews in various areas around the facility.
Conducts shakedown for contraband materials, either individually or as a part or a specialized team. Confiscates contraband in accordance with facility and contracting agency policies and procedures.
Prepares reports and maintains daily logs as required.
Serves as member of special teams to respond to emergencies as required.
Performs residential duties for any shift as defined by management.
Ensure that all assigned duties are preformed adequately.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience working in a child care related field preferred.
Be able to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons necessary to care for the child’s/resident’s needs.
Ability to work overtime as required.
Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
Must be able to regularly report to work without being late.
Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
May be required to possess a valid driver’s license.
Must be mature, flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of residents and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
