Job Description : THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Adult Basic Education Teacher for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for the education of Adult Offenders. You will be preparing lesson plans by specifying content and activities to be covered, sequence of instruction, material needed and standards for lesson accomplishment. You will be preparing assessment techniques and analyzes the information gathered to determine adult inmate capabilities and readiness of learning. You will also be preparing and administering quizzes, tests, and exercises to direct students’ study and measure individual achievement.

Work Hours and Additional Information:
Full-time employment (37.5 hour workweek).
Work Hours – 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday – Friday, 30 minute lunch.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
If you are selected for hire and you are not a current Commonwealth employee, this position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of your employment. You are considered to be fully vaccinated two weeks after your second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines) or two weeks after receiving a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., the Johnson & Johnson vaccine). If you are not fully vaccinated prior to the start of your employment, or you have not received an accommodation exempting you from the Commonwealth’s vaccination policy based on a medical or religious reason, your job offer will be rescinded.
If you are selected for hire and you are a current Commonwealth employee, this position requires you to be either fully vaccinated prior to starting in this position OR undergo weekly testing for COVID-19. Unless you have received an accommodation exempting you from the Commonwealth’s vaccination policy based on a medical or religious reason, if you are not fully vaccinated prior to starting in this position and you refuse to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing, your job offer will be rescinded.
Qualifications:
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of either student teaching or a teaching practicum approved by the degree-granting institution; OR a bachelor’s degree and either one year of classroom instruction experience or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
