Job Description : UFP Industries Job Description Position Title: CI Specialist FLSA Classification: Exempt – SalariedJob Code: 505035 Employee Class: SalariedDepartment: Operations Reports to: Plant ManagerGeneral Summary The Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for the implementation and management of the plant’s CI initiative.Works under general direction; exercises discretion and judgment on work priority on a regular basis; and a certain degree of creativity is expected.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesEstablishes and builds the plant’s Continuous Improvement TeamManages the activities of the plant’s Continuous ImprovementEvaluates operations throughout the plant to identify areas of waste and opportunities for improvement.Facilitates VSM and Kaizen activities.Develops, prioritizes, and implements solutions to reduce waste and improve performance.Documents improvements and develops standard work instructions.Teaches, coaches, mentors all levels of employees in Continuous Improvement and manufacturing principles.Trains employees to identify and eliminate waste.Develops and manages programs to foster employee involvement to promote a ContinuousImprovement culture.Attends seminars, lectures, and training classes on Continuous Improvement and share gained knowledge with plant staffStaffs, develops and coaches the production management team, evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required.Prepares regular and special reports as required.Performs other duties as required.Job Specifications Knowledge RequiredBachelor’s degree in business or related discipline, or equivalent experience is required.Minimum three to five years of experience in lean manufacturing environmentProficiency in the use of MS Excel/spreadsheets is requiredWorking knowledge on 5s, Kanban, standardized work flow, value stream mapping, Kaizen and visual environment/factory.Preferred experience and knowledge of UFP’s organization and product linesSkills and abilities Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speakingAbility to successfully communicate with all organizational levelsAbility to apply business math in business situations, to plan, organize and prioritize work and to effectively interact with others.Ability to be mobile in the work environment.Ability to work hours mandated by managementAbility to pass a drug testConductSelf-managing; works well under little supervisionHighly motivated and enthusiasticGood interpersonal skills, and good listener and communicatorStrong organization skills and detail orientedProcess orientedEagerness to learnBe a team player and support the Company’s goalsWorking Conditions Requires standing and walking for at least 50% of the time; talking, hearing and seeing are essential duties of the job; sitting at a desk for long periods of time are also required.
