Position : Customer Experience Principal Researcher – Remote
Job Description : Symetra has an excellent opportunity to join our Strategy Office team as a Principal Researcher, Customer Experience!
About the role
This position will provide thought leadership and execution of the customer understanding work necessary to advance our enterprise strategic direction to drive outcomes of growth and retention of customers and delightful customer experiences.
The candidate will apply best practice research methods to understand customer problems and run experiments to validate assumptions and test desirability. Ideal candidate has a breath of knowledge including experience using voice of customer platforms to listen to customers and act on insights, persona development, journey mapping and a variety of research methods (e.g. quantitative, qualitative, ethnographic, etc.) and proven success in leadership roles.
This position acts as a consultant to advise and teach leaders, individuals and teams getting familiar with and or trying to incorporate customer understanding into their work efforts. The ability to influence others at all levels is important to the success of this role.
What you will do
Build and execute impactful research plan(s) that provide the broad market views and deep customer insights needed to impact strategy and CX.
Derive insights from quantitative and qualitative data, complementing other research that you will conduct on your own or in partnership with other researchers.
Ability to coach/mentor team members to build research plans, execute research and synthesize data analysis to form value-driven recommendations.
A Sense-making, Data Visualizer – Convey and present insights to varying levels of audiences within the organization using storytelling techniques and presentation skills.
Constructing and executing on test plans which addresses assumptions being tested, how to test them, what it is going to take to do it, and success metrics.
Stimuli creator: Design stimuli ranging from a simple discussion guide to low-fidelity prototypes, simple card sorts or storyboards to provoke conversation around needs or concepts without priming an interviewee.

Compensation
Salary Range: $127,100 – $211,900 plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Your experience and skills
5+ years of hands-on research and/or product planning experience, with demonstrated skill in collecting and analyzing human behavioral data to improve user experience
You will need practical and real-world problem-solving skills, as this team moves fast, and your role will be to help unblock barriers in design, build and go-to-market
Human centered design capabilities
Design Thinking approach to problem solving
Prototyping and testing skills
Future visioning and strategy development
Behavior design methodologies
GED or higher
Either an MA/MS in human factors, psychology, market research, computer science, statistics, or related field, or a BA/BS in one of these fields with significant industry experience is preferred
