Position : Deputy Director of Park Operations

Job Description : Summary & Objectives: Working collaboratively with staff experienced in public space management, landscape architecture, facility maintenance, sustainable turf management, and horticulture, the Deputy Director of Park Operations will be a key person in the Operations Team. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Operations, the Deputy Director will be responsible for directing a diverse staff charged with the custodial maintenance of Brooklyn Bridge Park to the highest standards.Essential Functions: Park ManagementServe in a managerial capacity and direct a park-based staff of supervisors and custodians responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety of the park;Develop and implement a comprehensive system for carrying out daily tasks and projects that is in line with the high standards and expectations of the organization;Work with the AVP of Operations on the development and implementation of a parkwide inspection program for all areas of the park to be completed on a routine basis utilizing BBP’s operations asset management systems. Such programs will require coordination with other departments at BBP including the Capital, Facilities, Horticulture, and Communications;Identify, monitor and track new and ongoing issues throughout the park that are outside the normally scheduled daily needs of the custodial staff, and assign these tasks based on priorities set by the Deputy Director, AVP of Operations and the Chief Operating Officer;Research and convey best practices around the topics of environmental health and safety, sustainability, and public space management;Oversee Brooklyn Bridge Park’s relationship with outside contractors including supplemental custodial maintenance, refuse hauling, fire systems, and pest control;Work with NYC Parks Enforcement Patrol on day-to-day matters relating to the rules and regulations of the park, deployment of officers, area closures, and other issues that may come up on a regular basis;Work collectively with the Maintenance and Horticulture heads on snow and ice removal throughout the park, as well as other tasks that may come up on a seasonal basis;Work with the Permit Manager to assist with any operational needs for all incoming events and film shoots; Work collectively with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy on operational needs for their annual and new events each season;Manage the inventory of equipment and consumable supplies used by the Operations team;Regularly source new products and equipment;Serve in an after-hours, on-call capacity. People ManagementCreate a positive atmosphere and ethos that encourages staff to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently, effectively, and with a focused attention to detail;Develop and implement a framework that provides for a positive visitor experience including staff interactions with the public and conflict mitigation;Explore and implement new training and certifications for staff based on required City and State building codes, as well as general staff development training;Create a system for keeping track of and updating employee certifications and training programs through BBP’s operations asset management system;Manage staff schedules and document day-to-day human resources issues;Participate in the hiring and termination process for employees;Supervise and motivate people from diverse backgrounds and educational levels;Perform other duties as required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time exempt position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.NYC residency required.
