Department or School Site The Early Childhood Education provides high quality early education

programs to maximize school readiness. Early Education Center Aide I

(Substitute) positions are utilized to support three different programs of

Early Childhood Education (ECE) centers, the California State Preschool

Programs (CSPP), and the California School Age Families Education

(Cal-SAFE) program.

Early Childhood Education (ECE) centers provide high quality

developmentally appropriate preschool programs that address the

social-emotional, physical and cognitive needs of approximately 10,000

preschool children between two-four years of age. We currently have 84

full day early childhood education center programs on a year-round

calendar.

California State Preschool Programs (CSPP) are three-hour educational

programs that provide personalized learning experiences for children

ages three and four years old. These programs are currently located at
62 early education centers, elementary schools and adult schools and

follow a traditional school year calendar.

California School Age Families Education (Cal-SAFE) Program is a

comprehensive, integrated, community-linked, school-based program

that serves expecting and parenting students and their infants and

toddlers. The Program is designed to improve the educational

experience, increase the availability of support services for enrolled teen

parents, and provide child care and development services for their

children. The four Infant Centers offer services to 60 infant/toddlers ages

six weeks to two and a half years during the high school’s instructional

time, usually six hours per day for 180 days per year.

Project This recruitment is specifically for 3 hour positions as an Early Ed Center

Aide (Substitute).

Job Duties/Responsibilities The following are typical duties performed by an Early Education Center

Aide I (Substitute):
Assists a teacher in the supervision and implementation of

developmental instructional activities for preschool and/or school-age

children.
Assists in providing experiences to promote the physical, intellectual,

emotional, social, and language development of children.
Organizes and implements small group activities according to a

teacher’s lesson plan.
Sets up indoor/outdoor instructional materials and equipment

according to a teacher’s lesson plans.
Monitors and enforces safety rules and appropriate standards of

behavior.
Prepares instructional displays, and materials under the direction of a

teacher.
Accompanies children on curricular trips.
Conducts daily health screening of children.

Minimum Requirements Qualified applicants will possess a High school diploma or evidence of

equivalent educational proficiency or currently participating in a Careers

with Young Children program conducted by a high school, community

adult school, regional occupational center, or accredited college or

university.

SPECIAL NOTE: As of September 1, 2016 all persons being employed

at an early education center will be required to show proof of the

following immunizations: (1) influenza (flu shot), (2) pertussis (whooping

cough, may appear on immunization records as DTap or Tdap), and (3)

measles (MMR).

Proof of vaccinations will be required at the time of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications Desirable candidates demonstrate the following:
Ability to read and write English
Willingness to set-up classroom materials, paints, sand table, water

play, manipulatives, etc.
Able to sit on the floor with students
Supervise and assist children with hygiene
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 10-15 lbs
Ability to lift and hold preschool children for extended periods of time.
Knowledge of child development principles
Knowledge of safety rules, hygiene habits, and conditions that may

affect children
