Job Description : Greenhouse GrowerWho we are:Alaska Seeds of Change employs and empowers local youth, promoting self-reliance and community involvement, to grow and sell fresh produce. We work with young people ages 16-24 to help them develop the vocational and personal skills needed to become successful adults.What we grow:Our Greenhouse Growers will learn the skills necessary for assisting with all aspects of the Alaska Seeds of Change hydroponic greenhouse and vocational program. Our greenhouse currently grows different herbs and types of lettuce using hydroponic towers such as basil, chives, lettuce, kale, dill, chervil, swiss chard, bok choy, mint, and strawberries. During the outdoor growing season, we grow vegetables including squash, tomatoes, and cabbage alongside our building and in the communityOur fresh produce is harvested the same day it is delivered to stores, restaurants and farmer’s markets.The position:This is a short-term, part-time, entry-level position. Greenhouse growers should expect between 20-29 hours of work per week. Employees will participate in three to six hours a week of paid interactive training and development time in various skills domains. Ideal candidates are between the ages of sixteen to twenty-four.No special experience required.The starting hourly rate is $11.00 per hour.
