Bargaining Unit: Local 856 – General Services & Maintenance Unit

Contra Costa County is seeking to fill current Information System Technician I vacancies within the following departments: Health Services, Department of Information Technology, and the Office of the Sheriff.

Other departments throughout the County may use the eligible list from this recruitment to fill future vacancies as well.

Health Services
The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent employment opportunity to a full-time Information Systems Technician I position assigned primarily to the Health Services Information Technology Unit located in Concord, CA.

The Information Systems Technician I is responsible for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware and software applications and equipment on the network. This will include answering phone calls to support customers with hardware and software issues and provide technical solutions, determine network issues, track, and follow-up status of issues, maintaining written documentation on installations and system fixes as needed. The technician must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle to operate and deploy equipment within Contra Costa County. The position may require working on weekends for projects.

Department of Information Technology (DoIT)
The Customer Care Help Desk position will give the opportunity to learn about various areas internal to the Department of Information Technology as well as to other Contra Costa County departments.

The candidate should be willing to learn about new procedures as they impact tracking issues on software, hardware and general technology questions. The candidate should also have a customer service or customer focus in order to provide the best customer experience.

Office of the Sheriff
Contra Costa County’s Office of the Sheriff is seeking to fill one (1) position within the Technical Services Division. This position will report to an Information Systems Project Manager and works closely with a small IT helpdesk team.

Your public service to the Office of the Sheriff will bring personal and professional satisfaction. You will witness on a daily basis, how it makes a positive impact in the community, from supporting Patrol units, Dispatch center, Custody facilities, to Emergency Operations.

Answering phone calls to support customers with computer, peripheral and other
technical problems
Troubleshooting equipment problems to ensure functional operation; performs minor repairs on computer equipment; and creates new data plugs, replaces cables and makes necessary adjustments
Opening and actively tracking technical incidents to meet team’s service level obligations
Receiving requests for assistance regarding desktop and computer related problems including hardware, software and peripheral printers and related equipment and determines severity of problems and resolves or refers to the appropriate staff or vendor
Performing a variety of duties in the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software applications and equipment related to local or wide area networks
Attending and participating in professional group meetings and keeps abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of information systems support and analysis

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Candidate must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, GED proficiency or high school equivalency certificate supplemented by nine (9) college semester or twelve (12) college quarter units in information systems, computer science or a closely related field.

Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience performing information systems equipment installation duties.

Substitution: One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required coursework in computer science when possessing one of the following current and valid certifications: CompTIA A+, Net+, Server+; Microsoft MCITP Desktop Support.
Selection Process

Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
Online Skills Assessment: Candidates invited to take the online skills assessment will need access to a computer and internet. The assessment is designed to measure candidates’ competencies as they relate to the job. These may include but are not limited to: Critical Thinking, Professional & Technical Expertise, Attention to Detail, Customer Focus, and Teamwork. Tentatively scheduled from March 30, 2022 through April 3, 2022. (Weighted 100%)

If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within one year of the date you took the test this time, you will not have the option to re-take the exam. If more than one year has passed, but less than three years have passed, you may choose to either re-use your score or retake the exam. If you elect to re-take the exam, your most recent score will be used, regardless of whether it is a higher or lower than the previous score.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
