Job Description : Hours: Fulltime Position, Tuesday-Saturday | 8:15-5 pmSalary: Commensurate with education and experience.Job descriptionUnder the supervision of the Executive Director, serves as a team leader who is responsible for the management of up to 10 kennel staff, and ensuring that all WAHS dog handling and cleaning protocols are followed daily. Maintains a smooth-running department through keen management, strong organizational skills, and solid computer capabilities. Maintains a commitment to the philosophies and policies of WAHS in the performance of his/her duties and respects the dignity and basic rights of each animal and individual.Primary DutiesOnboarding, training, and management of kennel staff ensuring all kennel protocols are being followed daily.The oversight that all dogs information is documented properly on website, internal animal software, kennel cards, adoption websites and social media.Work with Shelter Manager, Executive Director and Wellness Manager to ensure all dogs are being properly cared for from intake to outcome.Management DutiesOversee kennel staff Tuesday – Saturday 8:15-5 pm daily.Create staff task lists based off of cleaning protocols, exercise plan, and BMOD plan for kennel staff daily.Hold daily kennel meetings to review duties for day and any issues with dogs.Oversee cleaning of all kennel spaces daily.Be available to kennel staff during day to assist with any problems.Work closely with other managers to keep track of any issues with kennel staff.Talk to kennel staff daily to understand any new issues with dogs.Weekly audit kennel equipment and supplies and let Finance Manager or Shelter Manager know if you need something ordered or fixed.Assist Shelter Manager as needed with staffing meet and greets.Create weekly staffing schedules for kennel.Alert Shelter Manager to any staffing needs in kennel.Assist in interviewing potential kennel staff.Onboard new kennel staff. Including reviewing cleaning and kennel protocols handbooks, creating shadow schedules for new staff, accessing staff after milestones to see if they are ready to move to the next level.Executing 90 day and 1-year reviews of kennel staff with assistance of ED and or Shelter Manager.Specific Kennel Duties:Instruct Animal Wellness Manager of any health issues or concerns kennel staff bring to your attention.Attend weekly dog meetings and act as a liaison for the kennel staff.Assist Behavior Coordinator with any help color coding dog boards and updating weekly dog chart for dog meeting.Work closely with HSPO, Dog Trainer, and Behavior Coordinator to ensure all dogs are being attended to with proper exercise and behavior plans.Alert Executive Director and other staff if any dog is showing any aggressive signs as well documentation in PetPoint.Instruct Executive Director of any issues or concerns found with kennel facilities or equipmentBe familiar with applicable state laws, rules and regulations relative to the care and housing of animals.Audit kennel daily to make sure dogs are marked in PetPoint properly for location.Oversee proper and appropriate storage of all pet foods, supplies and equipmentWork with Volunteer Coordinator to make sure volunteers are properly trained and following shelter protocols.Assist Volunteer Coordinator in identifying dogs for offsite events.End of day walk through of kennel to make sure dogs are safe, have water, dog doors tight and not unauthorized toys in kennels.Administrative Duties: Good oral and written communication skills, Microsoft Office Suite, and computer skills a plus.Must have solid management experience.Problem solving skills, use of good judgement in situations requiring decisions.Excellent organizational skills with good attention to detail.Adapts quickly and able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Must have excellent customer service skills.Work with Director of Development to help promote dogs on social media.Help search for rescues and other shelters for transfers of dogs when necessaryCall dogs in from owner surrender list and work with other partners to identify dogs in need.Oversee follow-up phone calls and communication with owner surrenders, returns and other dog related issues.Post dogs on Facebook, Adopt a Pet, and the WAHS website.Be knowledgeable regarding promotions and able to explain to customers.Work closely with Shelter Manager to identify intake and help update the intake wait list.Give feedback and input on dog’s placement and assist Shelter Manager when needed on outcomes.Be knowledgeable of the dogs/puppies available for adoption, including but not limited to special needs, diets, etcGeneral Requirements: Passion for animals and animal welfare.Dog handling/shelter experience a plus but not mandatory. This is more of a management position over a dog handling position.Two years of management experience.Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and ability to arrive at work daily on time.The ability to make rational decisions and be professional in an emotional environment/situation.Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends, and holidays.Basic computer/keyboarding skills and experience with Microsoft Office and web browsers.Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.Must have excellent customer service skills.Individual must pass background check and pre-employment drug test.Constant communications with other staff onsite which requires hearing and listening to their needs.Physical Requirements: Constant use of hands to type on computer and move donations.Constantly will be moving from one duty to the next.Ability to hear dogs in distress and smell unusual smells in the kennel.Ability to work frequently in a loud kennel environment with exposure to cleaning agents, peanut butter, and other potential allergens.The ability to stand up to 4 hours dailyPossible exposure to weather including cold temperatures, warm temperatures, wind, rain, and snow while exercising dogs.Job Type: Full-timePay: $15.00 – $20.00 per hourBenefits:Employee assistance programEmployee discountHealth insurancePaid time offSchedule:8 hour shiftSupplemental Pay:Bonus paySigning bonusCOVID-19 considerations:The WAHS requires masks in medical areas of the building and has regular disinfection protocols and covid protocols in place for staff safety.Ability to commute/relocate:Eighty Four, PA 15330: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)Experience:management: 2 years (Required)Work Location: One location
