Position : Manager of the Military & Veteran Academic Success Center
Job Description : The Manager of the Military & Veteran Academic Success Centers position works under the supervision of the Associate Vice Provost for Targeted Programs & Populations to oversee three MVASC located at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson and UAA. The incumbent will oversee the daily operations of the Centers, supervise staff members, develop programming to support academic student success, assist prospective and current military & veteran students, and work collaboratively with internal and external organizations, departments, and agencies, in addition to other duties as assigned. A strong, up-to-date knowledge of national, state, and local policies and regulations affecting military & veteran students and their families is required. This position will also require some evenings and weekend work.
Duties:
25Outreach and Collaboration: • Promote MVASC and its programs across the university, JBER, and to stakeholders and departments • Make presentations related to MVASC and military & veteran issues to university and community stakeholders as necessary or in collaboration with other UAA departments • Work closely with departments across campus to provide support for military & veteran students • Work with a diverse and fluid population of students, community, and stakeholders • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national, state, and local policies and regulations affecting military & veteran students and their families • Work closely with Military & Veteran Student Services to ensure access to benefits specialists for students in the Center • Partner with outside entities (i.e. JBER and other community groups) when appropriate • Ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, processes, policies and procedures of the institution • Work collaboratively with the Learning Commons to provide academic and general support to military & veteran students and their families • Participate in and support the planning and implementation of a variety of campus programming, that support military & veteran students across campus. • Advise senior administrator(s) of administrative operations, and potential and/or actual items of concern • Represent the MVASC and senior administration on committees, to the public and with other unitsEssential
25Supervision: • Staff recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, supervision and performance management/evaluation • Direct, motivate, and manage the diverse functions and activities of staff • Ensure staff and student worker compliance with best practices, program policies and regulations • Mediate interpersonal or intra-departmental conflict • Maintain confidentiality on a variety of sensitive issuesEssential
50Center Oversight/Administration: • Work with the AVP for Targeted Programs & Populations (AVP) to organize and determine the mission, vision, and goals for the Military & Veteran Academic Success Centers (MVASC) • Conduct strategic and long-range planning and implementation for the MVASC • Assist the AVP with system, program, policy and procedure development for the MVASC • Develop, implement, manage and assess MVASC programs at JBER and UAA • Create and manage budgets when required • Analyze and administer budgets when required • Prepare, develop or assist with annual budget projections and “what if” scenarios for MVASC budgets • Maintain and update department webpages and ensure ADA compliance for department materials • Develop, establish and implement priorities, goals, strategic focus and direction of the MVASC • Promote efficient functioning and/or continuous improvement in services and/or operations for the MVASC • Prepare, analyze and approve quarterly and annual management reports regarding student assistance and satisfaction, delivery and execution of programming, and student success. • Analyze and resolve far-reaching, complex problems • Manage, analyze and assess liabilities as they relate to the MVASC • Serve as subject matter expert in the area of Military & Veteran academic student success • Attend administrative meetings and trainings including participation as a member of the AVP’s Leadership Team • Participate in committees as assigned and as appropriate.Essential

Typical Experience:
This position requires a Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field and three years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience with military and veteran programs. Advanced degree preferred.

This is a full-time, term-funded, Grade 79 ($26.08/hour minimum or DOE) 12 month position, complete with competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
Term Position:
This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University’s discretion.
