Job Description : Job Description and Duties
Incumbent must have the ability to write and speak effectively, They must also have the ability to manage groups, inquiries, material effectively and concisely; have a good work ethic; exercise a high degree of initiative; have the ability to work under pressure; prioritizre and manage multiple projects simultaneously; follow through on issues in a timely manner; and maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance. Duties include:
Responsible for logistics and coordination of virtual and in person events including but not limited to: advancing event locations, coordinating press logistics, drafting and issuing media advisories, development of press briefings etc.
At events, responsible for managing press including: managing Q&A, pre-briefing press when appropriate, setting up and moving press, providing materials to press when needed, staffing the Governor as needed .
Responsible for managing press inquiries into the Governor’s Office. Deputy Press Secretaries will often be the main point of contact for reporters and responsible for fielding the request, setting up and staffing interviews or background calls, and developing press responses.
This position will work directly with counterparts within the Governor’s Office.
Working Conditions
Candidates with the most desirable qualifications will be invited for interviews. Interviews will be held in Sacramento, California. The Deputy Press Secretary serves at the pleasure of the Governor and is an “Exempt” position, therefore appointment to this position and salary are subject to executive approval.

Department Information
Under the general direction of the Deputy Communications Director, the Deputy Press Secretary is responsible for an issue portfolio. This position is the primary point of contact for the press and is responsible for press events and mediai engagement.

Special Requirements
Qualifications:
Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with the press
Experience managing press events
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Bilingual (english/spanish) preferred
Positive attitude, ability to multitask and comfortable in a dynamic and often unpredictable environment
