Position : Tour Guide/Cast Member
Job Description : ***SEASONAL POSITIONS IN ALASKA*** Pay is $15/hr PLUS TIPS.
Ideal candidates can work April 26 – Oct 4th, 2022. Some flexibility on these dates is available and will be discussed with you if selected for interview. Due to the nature of our industry (serving cruise ship passengers) and the contractual obligations we have on our tours, all employees of Alaska 360 are required to be fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.
The Cast Member is the backbone of this company’s operation. Alaska 360 takes great care to train and maintain a professional and knowledgeable cast of characters to perform daily tasks and to execute the company’s tour products to all guests who visit Alaska 360’s Dredge Town. This position reports to multiple supervisors and managers throughout the day and is expected to carry out the company’s mission and represent the values of the company to the guests and to his/her colleagues. Cast Members assume a persona from the Klondike Gold Rush era and work in period costumes. They are divided into two groups: Tour Guides and Townspeople.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for the most important part of our tours: the guest’s personal experience of Dredge Town, our town site.
Interacts with all guests in an open and entertaining manner, keeping in character as someone from the Klondike Gold Rush throughout the work day.
Acts as a Guide or Townsperson for the parts of the tour which includes Dredge Town, the Sixty Mile Dredge, and gold panning.
Takes responsibility for a particular group of guests either as a Guide or a Townsperson in providing entertainment during the course of the day.
Assists guests in gold panning and assaying their gold.
Works in the gift shop and barista area as an important component of the tours.
Helps with maintenance and cleaning throughout the day and for closing site procedures.
Works as a Dock Representative with duties including interaction with guests, and cruise ship employees.
Works on a daily basis with multiple supervisors, managers, and partners with other cast members.
Educational Background
Degree or training in drama, theatre and/or education helpful, but not required
High degree of knowledge, or willingness to learn, about gold and Alaska are also helpful
Professional Experience
Any performing experience in theatre, education, musical talent, juggling, storytelling, comedy, and/or Sales desired
Experience in hospitality, education, or tourism helpful
Love of history and a desire to inspire others to appreciate it are a necessity
Required Skills & Abilities
Good interpersonal skills for daily interactions with individual guests and groups
Strong presentation/acting skills
Versatility – fulfill multiple rotating positions and transition quickly between the site segments
Flexibility – work in an ever-changing environment which is prone to change
Commitment to making the guests’ experience a top priority
Continued participation and interest in educational material relevant to Alaska, The Klondike Gold Rush, gold, and Skagway
Ability to work as part of a team including up to 40 daily employees
