Job Description : Job Class DescriptionThe purpose of the class is to conduct thorough and intensive background investigations on prospective employees and volunteers ensuring they meet professional standards of BCSO. Maintains applicant/employee background file, schedules required exams/tests, and prepares professional written reports. This class works according to procedures; works independently under minimal supervision.Position DutiesThe tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Review information provided by applicants; including but not limited to job history, military history, driving record, criminal record, and social media.Schedules applicants for interviews, polygraph examinations, psychological examinations, drug screenings, and other required tests.Gathers, classifies, and maintains incoming information.Conducts fieldwork and solicits comments and character references from past employers and neighbors of potential employees/volunteers.Interacts with outside agencies and the general public through various methods of communication.Recruits applicants, arranges interviews, and evaluates job candidates using a consistent set of qualifications.Makes recruitment presentations.Ensures all applicable forms and releases are completed accurately.Corresponds with and provides regular applicant updates to Human Resources, Employment and Recruitment, and hiring units.Identifies areas of concern and notifies appropriate agency contacts.Provides direction and guidance to office staff.Maintain files as per the guidelines of F.S. 119.Prepares final written investigative summary and recommendations for Administration’s review.Performs routine office tasks such as typing, telephoning, filing, faxing and copying.Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.Minimum QualificationsRequires Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree, or specialized training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with emphasis in Business, Criminology, Human Resources or a closely related field.Must be experienced in investigations, including interviewing and background research.A take-home vehicle is provided.Requires Valid Florida Driver’s License (must be maintained for duration of employment). Essentials for this requirement shall include, but not be limited to, the following:*Ability to sit in a standard car seat.Ability to use the right foot for operation of the gas pedal.Ability to use the right foot for operation of the brake pedal.Ability to use column gear shift.Ability to use mirrors for safe vehicle operation.Additional InformationNormal work schedule: M-F 8:00 to 5:00, with flexibility. May include weekends and evenings.Employees will have contact with inmates trustees during the normal course of the work day.Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities.
