Job Description : The Anchorage Trial Court is accepting applications for a Chambers Judicial Assistant 1 (salary range 12).

The Position
This position will provide administrative support to a team of magistrate judges. As a Chambers Judicial Assistant, you will receive files from out of court and process accordingly. This will include docketing documents filed in court, docketing orders, distributing signed orders, and routing files to appropriate locations. You will be responsible for the weekly review of matters under advisement for magistrate judges, perform calendaring duties, and will back up the in-court clerk as needed. Additionally, you will answer telephones and respond to e-mails and written correspondence for Magistrate Judge Team. This position is assigned to the court’s classified service; incumbents will attain regular status after completion of the initial probationary period.

The Work Environment
There are seven Magistrate Judges 4 and three Chambers Judicial Assistants who work together closely. You will be located in the Nesbett Courthouse located on 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. You will receive a private parking pass for the courthouse parking garage.

Work Schedule
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 36 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The 36-hour work week is the result of a furlough for the ACS. Please be aware that the work week may be increased to 37.5 hours per week upon termination of the furlough.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.

AND

Two years of progressively responsible, fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.

AND

The ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitution:

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager I with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

NOTE: Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred. Positions in this job classification are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will to the appointing authority.

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your typing speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document. Acceptable websites include: www.ratatype.com and www.typingtest.com.

WORK HISTORY
If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required at time of interview.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately, we cannot always interview all applicants.
