We are seeking a well-qualified candidate to serve as a “Community Ambassador”.The Community Ambassador actively engages the community and takes the lead role in creating and maintaining accurate information that assists in achieving the goal of reducing gun/violent crime. The position will also take the lead role in coordinating community town halls and act as a liaison between the community and other entities. This position will assist in identifying opportunities to collaborate with community stakeholders, law enforcement, faith-based leaders, neighborhood associations, and other grassroots organizations.Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Neighborhood Services Division. The position’s performance is based on fostering positive relationships between the community, non-profit and community stakeholder groups, law enforcement, faith-based leaders, and county agencies. The position will represent Orange County Government in a professional manner and will provide timely and accurate weekly progress reports on community needs, community engagement, and meetings, planning of forums, etc., as it pertains to preventing and reducing gun violence and violent crime.Act as a liaison between the community and other entities.Identify community stakeholders including, but not limited to, homeowner associations, voluntary neighborhood associations, houses of worship, faith-based organizations, civic associations, nonprofit community organizations, businesses, youth-led organizations, community advocates, and social service providers.Create and maintain distribution lists, as required.Prepare and distribute promotional event marketing materials.Identify and document opportunities to collaborate with law enforcement and community stakeholders.Collect and disseminate information through community canvassing, door-to-door visits, and community events on community resources and activities.Engage community stakeholders to work collaboratively with law enforcement by establishing, organizing, and coordinating town halls, public safety forums, and other events; review relevant data; solicit community input, and discuss and develop strategies to reduce gun/violent crimes.Monitor, maintain, and document outreach and program(s) effectiveness.Attend community meetings on behalf of the county and coordinate community presentations, as needed.Assist in public education campaigns.Respond to public and community inquiries, as needed. Perform other duties as assignedQualifications Associates or cations Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Administration, Public Relations, Social Sciences or a related field and three years of experience in public relations, marketing, planning, community organizing, advocacy, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Florida driver’s license.Must have reliable transportation.In order to ensure a healthy and safe work environment, Orange County Government requires all selected candidates for employment to certify, before their start date, that they are either vaccinated or have received at least one shot of a two-dose vaccine. Candidates who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical or religious reasons may request an accommodation to this requirement.
