Reports To: Vice President of Operations and Real Estate

Status: Exempt – Full Time

Supervises: Security Staff (Manager, Contracted Supervisors, Contracted Security Force) and SP+ Parking Manager

Position Summary:

The Director of Security, Safety, Parking and Traffic is responsible for managing the overall protection and safety of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), its staff, patrons, guests, property, facilities and grounds, at both current and possible expanded levels. The Director shall oversee, administer, and revise as appropriate, all aspects of the operations as related to Security and Safety at NJPAC, including the Emergency Management Program and related training programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the 24 hour, 365 day a year security presence in all NJPAC facilities and grounds by utilizing all available resources, including but not limited to, personnel, CCTV system, law enforcement agency resources, etc.
Control security access to all NJPAC facilities and grounds, currently including the two (2) buildings, two (2) surface parking lots, and Military Park Garage.
Oversee the Safety and Security division, including administration of policies, procedures, projects, and the Emergency Management Program, and all related tabletop exercises, drills and training programs.
Administer the ongoing modification and implementation of all safety and security policies, procedures and guidelines and ensure that all departments of operations, including House Management, Engineering, Facilities, and Operations Support, as well as Production, and Food Services, are implementing and maintaining proper safety and security procedures for their areas of responsibility.
Manage the Security budgets, including but not limited to, the contract security, fire alarm and electronic security budgets, as well as recommending, budgeting, implementing and managing to completion, all safety and security related capital improvements.
Manage the day to day and event parking and traffic logistics working closely with event producers and Newark Police Department.
Manage the investigation and reporting of all incidents that occur on NJPAC property and work with HR to assist with Workers Compensation Insurance reporting and the maintenance of OSHA compliance logs and records.
Supervise, schedule, and train all Security and Safety Department employees and contracted Security Officers. Ensure certification and knowledge of operating procedures, emergency protocol, safety, prevention, and customer service skills.
Ensure that all NJPAC personnel, volunteers and vendors are knowledgeable of security and safety protocols and prepared for an emergency situation through training, drills, table top exercises and distribution of appropriate literature. Ensure literature, i.e. Safety and Security Guidelines, Evacuation Marshal Guidelines, Evacuation Plans, the Emergency Management Program, remain current.
Manage the NJPAC Emergency Management Program, documentation, related documentation, and assume the role and responsibilities of Incident Commander as outlined in the program.
Manage the incident response training, reporting and investigation procedures.
Establish and maintain relationships with city, county, state, and federal law enforcement and Office of Homeland Security agencies to support NJPAC’s response to all emergency and security related issues.
Manage and maintain all of the fire alarm systems, CCTV systems, and Key/ Lock Systems, both electronic and manual.
Oversee daily tours to identify and correct facility issues that may create an unhealthy or unsafe environment.
Maintain Basic First Aid and CPR certification and act as a first responder when needed.
Be available to respond to any serious incident
Address any patron and staff complaints of a security nature.
Perform any related duties as required.

Qualifications and Special Requirements:
15 years on local, state or federal law enforcement agencies, with specific expertise in counter terrorism, crowd management and facility security
5 years experience in security operations working with the public, preferably in an entertainment setting
Able to handle and coordinate emergency response efforts of security staff
Strong administrative, communication and customer service skills
Familiarity, understanding, and experience with all state and federally required security mandated training regulations and accreditations, and leading the training of same
Analytical
Strong decision making skills
Clear & decisive directions
Computer skills in Word, Excel and network communications
Certification in First Aid and CPR
Flexible schedule required
Undergraduate degree preferred
