Work involves overseeing activities associated with the desktop, local area network or wide area network. Performs desktop installation, policy development, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware and software, and the evaluation of potential desktop and network enhancements. Also involves day-to-day support of business users assisting other sections in the department. May train others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.This position: Provides advanced technical assistance and support for troubleshooting applications and hardware issues reported by local and remote users.May assist as first line or second line responder to service requests and incident reports.May participate in ITS, Admin Ops and agency project teams.Installs, configures, and deploys desktop hardware and software according to ITS procedures.Researches various hardware and software resources to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency.Participates in planning for and deployment of operational, technical, and support requirements for location, installation, operation, and maintenance of the desktop computing environment.Provides enhancements with desktop, laptop, and application automation.Troubleshoots desktop and client software issues including remote support of field staff during routine support, upgrade and replacement projects and documenting findings.Participates in projects as a team member supporting the implementation of workstation and web-based systems.Trains others during implementation and ongoing support of technical systems.Analyzes and tests new or modified procedures and information systems for meeting business needs and technology standards.Performs other duties as assigned.This position requires: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.One years’ experience in a Windows 10 environment with experience in use of MS-Office applications with skill and proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, Access or relational databases and experience in supporting an enterprise email system.Note: Education and experience may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.Preferences for this position include: Experience in direct technical support of business users, both local and remote.Experience deploying new computers via a desktop image and installing software updates/upgrades.Experience in a state, local, or federal government environment.Additional job details: May be required to travel to Department of Insurance offices within Texas.This position requires demonstrated knowledge of: Installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft Office Professional and all subcomponents.Supporting laptop encryption, Windows 10, Windows Active directory.Use of a Help Desk management system.Troubleshooting network connected and wireless devices (computers, printers, scanners, phones, etc.).Best practices, tools, and techniques for support of remote users.This position requires demonstrated skill in: Planning, decision-making and problem-solving.Effective oral and verbal communication.Providing support using a wide variety of tools including but not limited to phone, on-site, instant messaging, email, and remote assistance in the use of personal computers including desktop application software and the client side of enterprise client/server software.Deploying new and replacement personal computer hardware and software.Supporting web-based applications in a mixed browser environment.Supporting corporate email, cloud-based solution experience preferred.This position requires the demonstrated ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Interpret technical information.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.Bend, stoop, and safely lift items weighing 50 pounds.Train others.Research and document problem solutions.Analyze and solve work problems.Work effectively in a professional team environment.Veterans: Click or copy and paste this link into your browser: www.texasskillstowork.com for help translating your military work experience and training courses into civilian job terms, qualifications/requirements, and skill sets.
