Position : NACE Coating Inspector

Job Description : General Description:

The NACE Coating Inspector position is responsible for coatings inspections in shops and field applications. The Coatings Inspector over sees sandblasting operations, priming, and coating application on large steel components, tanks, and piping. Observes and records weather and atmospheric conditions for compliance with coatings procedures and specifications. Performs wet and dry-film thickness measurements. Assess the coating conditions of piping, components, and tanks.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

Ensure a safe work environment.
Schedule project inspections in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
Monitor the application(s) of a variety of industrial coatings.
Perform extensive plant coating surveys according to client and company procedures and specifications.
Recommend corrective actions to engineering for evaluation.
Assess conditions of internal and external coatings on tanks, piping, and valves.
Observe and record that blasting operations are in compliance with procedures and specifications.
Ensure that contractor and contractor employees are qualified and in compliance with contract and procedure requirements and knowledgeable on the client specifications.
Ensure the equipment is function tested and in optimum operating condition for the project.
Ensure the blasters and coaters are tested and qualified on specific equipment and product to be used on the project.
Mentor blaster and coaters on procedures, equipment and specifications.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of SSPC, NACE, and industry specifications and procedures.
Skilled in basic computer competencies.
Ability to complete and submit Daily Inspection Reports using Microsoft Office and online software.
Knowledge of how to operate and use testing equipment.
Skilled organization and detail oriented.
Ability to perform maintenance, rebuild, & troubleshoot Blasting & Coating equipment.
Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe outside weather conditions. This includes extreme cold in the winter and 100+ degree heat in the summer. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving parts, etc. depending on the position and work environment. The noise level is usually moderate to loud.

Local position with no lodging assistance or per diem provided. 7 day work week, 84 hours a week on a 2 week rotational schedule.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee’s ability to perform to the job standard. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.

Offer contingent upon ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED is required.
Current NACE, CIP 2, or CIP 3 (Peer Review) certification is required.
5 years’ experience in inspection & coating related applications is required.
NSTC Card is required.
Hazardous Painters Card, 24-hour Hazwoper CERT within 30 days of hire is required.
Valid driver’s license is required.
