Position : Payroll Operations Director
Job Description : Since 1997, AlphaStaff has delivered HR outsourcing solutions to thousands of small and medium-sized businesses across the country, as well as some large organizations. The Payroll Operations Director leads AlphaStaff’s payroll department which consists of 4 Payroll Supervisors who each manager a team of Payroll Specialists in our two offices located in Sunrise, FL and Atlanta, GA.Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:Planning, assigning, and scheduling work to ensure quality standards are met.Training and overseeing the teams’ overall productivity, morale, collaboration, and teamwork.Providing support and direction for escalated client payroll issues.Manage performance standards for Supervisors and Specialists, and coach, mentor, counsel, and develop team members through one-on-ones and team meetings, ensuring performance standards are met.Schedule regular training sessions and participate in training rotation.Manage established processes by identifying improvement opportunities through automation and digitization by leveraging technology to drive service improvements, efficiency, and improve quality control.Determine work procedures; preparing work schedules; expediting workflows; issuing instructions to payroll specialists; assigning duties; examining work for accuracy, neatness, and conformity to policies and procedures.Maintain workload balance by frequently reviewing client distributions amongst your team.Ensure team members log via Salesforce all customer service feedback, data entry errors, erroneous paychecks, complaints, and other significant events for performance metrics.Coordinate seamless back-up protocols within the team; ensuring all client processing notes are current and comprehensive; enforcing departmental policies regarding breaks, punctuality, unplanned absences, and overtime thresholds.Support ongoing technology initiatives such as payroll web approval, employee onboarding, employee/manager self-service, and imaging system (OnBase) by developing and executing strategies that increase client utilization.Oversee ongoing client implementations and track progress against goals.Continuously optimize the activities, processes, and departmental structure by leveraging project management principles to ensure ongoing goal attainment.Review and make final decisions for requests made by clients to your staff which are considered out of scope such as special reports, functionalities, etc.Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred or 5 years combined equivalent of work experience and education.Professional certification, license/specialized training: CPP preferred.Minimum of 4 years equivalent payroll experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 5 years equivalent payroll experience with no Bachelor’s degree.Minimum of 2 years of experience in recruiting, retaining, training, developing, and rewarding top quality employees.Experience, organization, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word in particular), Payroll Systems (PrismHR preferred but not required), and Salesforce.com preferred but not required.Skills and Attributes: Ability to multitask and lead others to consistent high levels of productivity and quality.Ability to trouble shoot problems and present solutions for a variety of situations.
