Position : PROGRAM COORDINATOR – Haines Community Garden

Job Description : JOB SUMMARY: Temporary GROW Program position through September 2022 to support the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Haines “Victory Garden” and Food Hub. Conducts program planning, designs implementation strategies, builds and supports program partnerships, develops resources and promotional materials, and completes program data collection and reporting requirements. Provides gardening knowledge and experience as well as training to other “Victory Garden” employees and volunteers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct community outreach in Haines. Coordinate volunteers and create organizational collaborations.Document activities with photos and video. Share posts to social media platforms. Create and post flyers. Actively seek media coverage.Document and evaluate program activities. Document volunteer numbers, including hours worked, jobs completed; document food planted, harvested and distributed.Create two fundraising events during summer. Research grants; apply if directed by VG Steering Committee.Mentor student interns. Direct University and High School interns and volunteers to complete needed tasks; confirm completion of hours.Organize events. Host a monthly Farmers Market, fundraisers, and educational Food Hub workshops.Collaborate with local organizations to improve food security for the Haines community. Continue to nurture relationships with Klukwan, Takshanuk Watershed Council, Haines Economic Development Council and the Chilkat Valley Historical Society.Provide oversight for the Haines “Victory Garden.” Organize seed starting, plant sales, weekly work party, compost development, harvest, distribution and storage. Help with maintenance of community garden site facility.Plan continued use and expansion of food security and community programs at the garden site.Perform other duties as assigned.COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * Requires extensive networking, teamwork with other employees, and an ability to share information and speak in open forums in front of groups.Ability to read, comprehend, and follow established policies and procedures.Ability to manage work time well, prioritize and meet deadlines.Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy and tact.Ability to establish a good rapport with people of diverse cultures and belief systems.Must demonstrate sound judgment, professional boundaries, ethics, and ability to maintain confidentiality.WORK ENVIRONMENT/JOB CONDITIONS: * Position is on-site. Must live in Haines. Work activities will occur remotely over the internet or on-site at the Haines “Victory Garden” or other local community spaces.Agency is a mandated tobacco, drug and alcohol free workplace.Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.Uses computers and computer programs effectively to enter data, create spreadsheets and process information, and, develop documents, program and training materials.Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.Communicates with others outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, and other external sources in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail in keeping with current policies & procedures.Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: desktop computer, telephone.Negotiation abilities to bring others together to try to reconcile differences.Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to grasp, type, see, talk, hear, and lift and carry 35 pounds of weight by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner. This position will also be performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials.Must be in good general health and free from serious physical, mental health and/or substance abuse problems.POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a temporary, part-time position that cannot be held for more than six months since the start date. Days and hours of work will vary as job duties demand.TRAVEL: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area travel may be expected.EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED EDUCATION: * Must be at least 18 years of age.State and federal background checks, including fingerprints, may be required.Demonstrated ability to successfully interpret and implement company and departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.Technical experience in coordinating projects; excellent organizational and time-management skills.Excellent written and analytical skills.Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including expertise in report writing and communication with a diverse audience.Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignment with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member.Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary in order to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs and proficient use of Microsoft Word and email.Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.Agency recommends annual TB screening and physical as part of employee’s personal wellness plan. (Recommendation – Not a requirement of this position)PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Gardening knowledge and experience.Experience with program coordination.Prior experience gardening in Haines for more than one season.Job Type: Part-timePay: $23.57 – $28.93 per hourSchedule:Day shiftWork Location: One location
