Position : Social Services Aide (Monitor) – TES/OOC

Job Description : The Seattle Human Services Department’s mission is to connect people with resources and solutions during times of need so we can all learn, work, and take part in strong, healthy communities. Through the lens of racial equity, HSD supports programs, initiatives, and policies that address six key impact areas: preparing youth for success; supporting affordability and livability; addressing homelessness; promoting public health; responding to gender-based violence; and promoting healthy aging.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides nutritious food to youth ages 1-18 in low-income communities. The City of Seattle sponsors these federally funded meals and snacks to youth ages 1-18 at approximately120 locations throughout Seattle, including playgrounds, community centers, library branches, summer schools, youth clubs, cultural organizations, housing communities. Simply stated, the Summer Food Service Program’s goal is to connect youth with nutritious meals and meaningful academic/cultural activities when school is out.
This position performs monitoring duties to support sites success and ensure meal compliance with all SFSP rules and regulations. Monitors train meal site staff on program rules, visit sites throughout the summer to ensure that programs are operating properly, collect weekly program paperwork, and troubleshoot day-to-day site concerns. This position reports to the Food & Nutrition Unit Supervisor.
While each day looks slightly different, a typical day consists of a team meeting to outline priorities for the day; visiting sites to review meal service, collecting paperwork, and providing technical assistance and support; office time to complete paperwork and provide customer support, and meeting with program staff to review site paperwork and progress. This is a fast-paced position that gives candidates experience with direct service and city human services work.
Successful applicants will be highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable enforcing strict federal and city program rules with site program staff and Seattle Public Schools Nutrition Services staff.
This position is full-time with typical work hours from 8:00-4:30 with occasional evening or weekend work required and runs from approximately 5/25/2022-8/31/2022 with training from 5/25-6/24 and program operation from 6/27-8/31. Due to the nature of the work, this is not a remote position.
People interested are encouraged to apply by April 6 when the first review will happen.

Make appointments with sites prior to the start of Summer Food Service Program to ensure that facilities are safe for food service to youth
