Job Description : Duties
Duties are listed at the full performance level of the position (GS-07).
Conducts a variety of surveys related to the protection / management of aquatic resources including fish passage, stream inventory, stream productivity, stream utilization, physical / biological characteristics, and habitat restoration opportunities.
Determines presence/absence and estimates abundance of anadromous and resident salmonid species.
Participates in various environmental education programs.
Coordination, management, and reporting of fisheries conditions.
Assembles permit and concurrence packages with the District Fisheries Biologist.
Assists with for aquatic organism passage database and annual assessments.
Assists with annual updates to corporate stream database and nominations to Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Anadromous Waters Catalog.
Assist with fisheries related-public outreach and environmental education events.
Conduct stream and riparian restoration work as part of a team.
Field work is physically challenging and is performed in remote forest and wetland environments where terrain is often uneven, rocky, and/or covered with thick vegetation, snow or ice with exposure to extremes of weather and temperature.
Accessing remote locations will require travel on foot or via aircraft, fresh and salt water vessels, 4wd vehicles, snow machines, and ATV/UTVs through mountainous terrain and across streams.
Passing and training a firearms exam is required, and firearms are required during all field work.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
Successful completion of a 2-year probationary period is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.
The ability to obtain and maintain weapons certification is a condition of employment in this position as the incumbent will be required to carry a firearm.

Passing a minimum background investigation, firearm classroom training, and annual shooting proficiency test is a condition of employment for this position.

Eligibility Requirements: You must have lived and or worked in or near the geographic boundaries of Southeast Alaska and have special knowledge or expertise concerning the natural and cultural resources of this area to participate in Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) activities.
