JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting internal and external communication projects as needed. This person will be responsible for developing material that articulates the purpose and philosophy of the credit union to our members, community and employees while monitoring industry and social trends to ensure brand recognition and strong corporate communication through exceptional writing. This role also ensures regulatory compliance and corporate standards are maintained relative to branding and product information in all communications. In all dealings with the public, members and employees, responsibility and ownership is taken and timely follow up is done on pending issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
Works with the Corporate Communications team to initiate, develop and implement successful internal and external communications utilizing all types of media through their creative writing. Ensures that employees understand and can effectively explain to members key news items; studies the objectives, promotional policies and needs of the credit union to develop strategic writing that influences public opinion, promotes ideas, engages employees and highlights our brand.
Manages email campaigns in support of the credit union’s email communication and onboarding strategy. Tracks campaign progress and reports on key metrics to support continuous improvement and engagement. Ensures that emails are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Assists with the credit union’s automated letter system by creating effective communication pieces, facilitating the work ticket process and ensuring letter accuracy and timeliness. Assists with manual letters as needed.
Writes and edits copy for internal and external content sources ensuring all credit union communications have a consistent brand message and is engaging to staff, members and the public. Communications include member and employee news, community engagement, employee incentives, web content, award nominations, annual reports, etc.
Assists with writing scripts for events and campaigns as well as social media writing projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English or another related field is required with a minimum two years of communications/professional writing experience and a proven record of excellence. Must possess expert knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite as well as excellent written and verbal skills. Must be highly skilled at composing and formatting correspondence and maintaining confidentiality of information.
In addition, the position requires:
Ability to work independently with input, approvals and supervision from the Director of Corporate Communications.
Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
A keen eye for detail, proofreading and editing with proven track record of having executed and completed projects on time.
Ability to organize and juggle a multitude of tasks, projects and information simultaneously.
Exceptional follow-up and follow-through on projects as assigned.
Creativity, with a strong desire to learn.
Working knowledge of the operations of a financial institution is helpful but not essential.
Minimum typing WPM: 60
Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, anti-money laundering laws, regulations (BSA/AML), the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC) and compliance and marketing and advertising laws and regulations.
