Job Description : Job Title: Director of Marketing and CommunicationsDepartment: Impact – DevelopmentReports to: Vice President & Chief Impact OfficerFLSA Status: ExemptLast Review Date: March 2022Approved By: President & CEOApproved Date: March 2022POSITION SUMMARYThe Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the leader of Hawai‘i Foodbank’s communications team – developing and implementing strategic communications, public relations and marketing plans to support Hawai‘i Foodbank’s programs, services, campaigns and initiatives. This seasoned professional is responsible for leading Hawai‘i Foodbank’s brand strategy and ensuring consistency and quality of the organization’s overall identity. The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the key administrator for the organization’s creative direction, internal and external communication, marketing programs, and publications.This individual often works independently with minimal supervision in a work environment of multiple and conflicting priorities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Serve as the leader of Hawai‘i Foodbank’s marketing and communications team, working with the executive leadership team, the leadership team, Kaua‘i branch and other departments to provide consistent and comprehensive communication to internal and external audiences.Identify specific marketing and communications goals for Hawai‘i Foodbank, develop plans and strategies to reach them, and measure progress.Determine appropriate marketing and communications tactics to distribute Hawai‘i Foodbank news, promote campaigns, publicize events and broaden Hawai‘i Foodbank’s audiences.Responsible for driving the development of Hawai‘i Foodbank’s digital marketing and communications strategies and overseeing execution.Incorporate data-driven results to design and execute strategic plans to increase digital adoption of Hawai‘i Foodbank’s marketing and communications efforts.Oversee staff and consultants in managing SEO, paid digital, social media advertising and all other digital marketing platformsIn partnership with program and development staff, oversee the development, distribution and maintenance of all print collateral including newsletters, direct mail appeals, annual reports, toolkits, educational materials, brochures, event invitations, promotional items and more. Provide editorial and design direction, handle quality control and proofreading, oversee production, and create and implement distribution plans, as needed.Serve as a liaison to content contributors, volunteers, authors and others directly involved in all published works by soliciting and/or writing articles, editing submissions, conveying editorial comments, resolving issues, and ensuring deadlines are met.Serve as the organization lead in partnership with Hawai‘i Foodbank’s external media relations partner on all aspects of media and public relations, including drafting of talking points, taking photographs and organizing media kits, writing and editing press releases, fielding media requests, arranging interviews, training staff members to become spokespersons, and developing crisis management plans.Support the training and management of marketing and communications staff, interns and volunteers. Collaborate cross-departmentally within the organization to ensure deadlines strategic goals are met. Manage relationships with vendors, such as contracted designers and printers.Develop and manage the marketing and communications budget by summarizing, researching, analyzing past expenditures and forecasting projections based on strategies and projects to be deployed.Maintains compliance with Feeding America standards for sourcing publication content and content usage, as well as Feeding America and Hawai‘i Foodbank branding standards and other contractual content standards.OTHER FUNCTIONSComply with all federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.With team, present recommendations and assist in implementing quality initiatives.Provide support on any other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Working evenings, holidays, special events and project work and weekend hours, as needed.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong leadership, organizational and decision-making skillsExcellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated experience in leading innovation in digital marketing and communicationsDemonstrated experience with website content management systems, UI/UX, SEO, web analytics and basic coding and related tools.Demonstrated experience with social media and email management platformsBasic knowledge of design and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and/or related toolsNon-profit experience is preferredLANGUAGE SKILLS:Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Possess strong verbal, nonverbal and written skills. Ability to translate complex ideas into understandable information. Ability to collaborate effectively in order to help parties gain clear understanding of food bank concepts. Understanding of various methods for visualizing analysis and presenting data in a way that can be easily consumed.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Math Skills: Knowledge of basic arithmetic, measures and weights, percentages and statistics. Possess ability to research, analyze data, visualize and forecast. Excellent use of time management. Excellent attention to detail and problem solving.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE, MACHINES, TOOLS, VEHICLES USEDAbility to use a computer workstation, including keyboard, mouse, glide/track pad, printer, copier, scanner, and communication systems (including internal VOIP system, online meeting/communication systems, mobile systems, etc.)Proficient computer software skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)Website and digital marketing expertise and working knowledge of best practicesInsured vehicle with valid driver’s license and clean driving record.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
