We are looking for a hyper-creative, impact-oriented, enthusiastic team member to help elevate our communication efforts.
ROLE OVERVIEW
As a key member of the marketing, communications, and storytelling team, the Head of Communications is responsible for managing internal and external communications for the Sorenson Impact Center. Including; managing media relations, implementing key communication strategies, executing on large project deliverables, and developing and managing internal communications processes. The head will be expected to write and distribute press releases, co-write oped and thought leadership articles, develop ongoing media relationships for the Center, identify thought-leadership and speaking opportunities for Center experts, and help place key stories with national, regional, and industry-specific media. The head also serves as the editor-in-chief of all Sorenson Impact Center channels, developing content for our website, social media channels, newsletters, annual reports and media releases. The position also works closely with our impact strategy and graphic design team to develop innovative and interactive storytelling approaches to complex data visualization challenges. Above all, the Head of Communications excels at creative and technical writing.

Responsibilities
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop positive, healthy relationships with media outlets and reporters in key topic areas relevant to the Center’s work.
Create and distribute press releases, through-leadership articles, and media campaigns
Drive pitch and announcement strategies, place key stories
Ensure all materials, information, and announcements have a consistent and positive messaging and branding
Coordinate with all Center teams and personnel to develop stories and new ideas for publication and promotion
Conduct quality control on all mass internal and external communications
Manage a small team of communications students
Manage media relations and maximize media opportunities
Manage communications channels
Develop internal publications such as newsletters, releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line, intranet, video, special projects and assignments
Work with our marketing team to create rich and creative content that is optimized for search engines
Work across the Center on impact-oriented project deliverables and strategic communications planning
Identify and place Center experts with key thought-leadership and speaking opportunities
Coordinate with public relations agency representation

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, English or a related field; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.

Master’s degree in communications program or related field

Relationships with key media organization in impact, business, investing and related fields
Professional development courses and/or seminars to learn current industry trends and new technologies
Certified or trained on information exchange programs or creative and publishing software
