This position enhances the citizen and visitor experience to Golden’s Parks and Clear Creek Corridor thru education and enforcement of local rules, regulations, orders and/or ordinances. Enforcement will include issuing citations on a regular basis. Principally Patrols Clear Creek Corridor on foot. Will patrol adjacent parks/neighborhoods or other parks as assigned. Educates visitors and disseminates information on local rules and regulations.
This is a non-traditional Park Ranger position. The focus of this position is primarily safety, rule education, and enforcement. It contains an enforcement role for a variety of ordinance enforcement related issues such as parking, dogs at large, and smoking in a banned location. This is a Seasonal Position.
JOB SUMMARY
Provides recurring patrol presence along Clear Creek Corridor on foot. Patrol adjacent parks/neighborhoods as assigned. Interacts with citizens and visitors to create a positive image of the City in the efforts to respond to inquiries and complaints.
Ensures citizen and visitor safety through compliance of rules/regulations/orders and ordinances. Informs and educates public of rules/regulations/orders and ordinances via public relations, education, and written information. A strong emphasis will be placed on the alcohol possession law and citations will be required to support this.
Assists the public by providing directions and responding to questions and inquiries.
Responds to citizen/visitor concerns and complaints in course of assigned duties; evaluates, interprets, and enforces various rules and ordinance violations. Ensures enforcement of rules and ordinances. Issues administrative citations for violations if necessary per rules and regulations as defined in Golden Municipal code title 8.30
Works with police officers as necessary to complete job duties. Reports disruptive violators to police or requests police to assist with crimes outside of title 8.30. May take photos and collect evidence pertaining to appropriate violations.
Maintains accurate records related to citations and violations; prepare a variety of written reports, memos, and correspondence.
Will be required to work weekends, holidays, and special events during the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day).
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or (G.E.D.). Minimum age of 18 at time of hire. Police Explorer or current/former enrollment in a law enforcement curriculum preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate information to citizens and visitors and deal with diverse population groups. Must exhibit strong customer service and conflict resolution skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work a variety of hours including holidays, weekends, early mornings and late evenings.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Current CPR/First Aid certifications preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, local rules/ regulations / orders and ordinances, training manuals, etc. Ability to deal with complaints and violations. Must have good written and oral communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to utilize MS Office software.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to interpret and enforce local administrative ordinances and regulations. Ability to make good judgment; deal with problems involving standardized guidelines and solutions. Ability to multitask and meet assigned deadlines.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints, and request for service in a fair, tactful, and firm manner. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to complete required training; comprehend and understand required rules and ordinances. Ability to use a two-way radio. Ability to learn required software.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Citation booklet, city vehicle, pepper spray, collapsible baton, radio, and general office equipment. Must wear assigned uniform.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Occasional bending, kneeling, and crawling. May include running in emergency situations. Ability to hear and respond to in-person requests and communicate via two-way radio.

Primarily outdoor environment in all temperatures and weather conditions. Hours will include weekends and holidays.
