Job Description : Responsibilities

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of a Pathology Assistant and the Pathologist, participates in departmental training program designed to develop surgical and autopsy technical abilities and knowledge.Performs and assists in surgical grossing, autopsy examinations and intraoperative consultations and ensures that supplies, equipment and records are maintained in an orderly and efficient manner.Assists in all other areas as directed by supervisor.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential: standing, walking, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting and pushing/pulling usual weight of 15 pounds, carrying usual weight of 10 pounds, reaching below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions, frequent gripping on an object.Frequent: sitting, twisting body, reaching at shoulder level.Occasional: stooping/bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lifting and pushing/pulling weight up to maximum of 50 pounds of force, lifting bodies with assistance, carrying up to maximum weight of 50 pounds, stating gripping of an object.Operates various laboratory equipment and instrumentations used to dissect cadavers and office equipment.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.Exposed to blood and body fluids, chemicals, communicable diseases and hazardous materials.Exposure to chemical fumes, odors, mists, gases associated with performing autopsies.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or a biological science; OR,
o Associates degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training as per CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b) as determined by department.
Ability to read, writing, speak and understand English.
B. EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year recent work experience as a morgue diener, autopsy assistant or related experience preferred.
