Job Description : Campfire Labs is a content marketing agency that helps brands like Dropbox, Calendly, and Stripe tell stories that inspire. We’re a mission-driven company that puts people first, and we donate 50% of our profits to climate action.
This opening is for a Staff Writer who will work directly with our clients to create compelling, actionable content. They’ll find experts to interview, and work to become an expert themselves. They’ll also have an opportunity to grow Campfire Labs by working directly with clients, other writers, or additional members of our team.
This is a full-time, salaried position, and like every other role at Campfire Labs, it is fully remote. It has a starting salary of $60,000 USD. This person will report to (and be supported by) our Editorial Manager. They will also work closely with our Project Managers (PMs), Staff Editor, and other Staff Writers as requested.
The person in this role will:

Write content for our clients, including digital books, survey reports, articles, podcast scripts, video scripts, and ghostwriting projects
Schedule and conduct interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs), including clients, customers of clients, and external sources found via independent research
Revise content based on feedback from internal editors and client stakeholders

Develop, document, and pitch original concepts for content to clients
Track their time on a per-project basis to help us understand which projects are taking up the most bandwidth
Acquire a working knowledge about our clients, their products or services, and the audience(s) their content is written for

There are also opportunities for the person in this role to take on editing projects, to coach our small team of freelance writers, and/or to directly interact with clients, if they wish. The Staff Writer role is an opportunity for those interested in content to grow within the field, while still being a writer at heart.
What we’re looking for:

Strong narrative-driven writing skills: You’ve worked as a journalist, content marketer, or writer previously, with a focus on creating long-form (1,500+ word) pieces. We’re especially interested in folks who’ve specialized in B2B, SaaS, sales, or marketing.
Interviewing experience: You’re comfortable conducting interviews to drive your stories, and know how to draft questions that will give you the information you need.
Openness to feedback: You’ve worked closely with an editor in the past, and understand how feedback makes your writing better.
Strong client communication skills: You take the initiative to respond to clients in a timely manner, even if you don’t have the answers right away. Your communication is clear, confident, and actionable.
Excellent organization: You can independently organize and manage multiple writing projects at once. You should have some familiarity with project management software (we use ClickUp).
Creativity: Clients will come to you for new ideas, and you should be willing to share. We’re also looking for someone who can be creative with the rest of our team, and brainstorm ideas for growing the company and this role together.
Kindness: Our team is built around a shared value of kindness: to each other, to our clients, and to the rest of the world at large. We look for this value in everyone we hire.

What we have to offer:
Our team is passionate about telling stories that inspire. But we’re motivated by a larger social mission, and always put people before profits.
We take work-life balance seriously: we have a 32 hour work week, offer 4 weeks (16 days) of paid time off, and close our office twice each year so the team can recharge. We’ve also pledged 50% of our profits and equity to projects that fight climate change, with the rest of our profits going back into our employees’ pockets in the form of quarterly bonuses.
Here’s the full list of benefits included with this (and every) role:

Competitive salary with quarterly profit sharing bonuses
32 hour work week with flexible hours
4 weeks (16 days) of paid time off
Health, dental, and vision benefits, including dependent coverage
$1,000 yearly professional development, health, and office equipment stipend to use as you please
Biannual office closures so you can rest, reset, and spend time with family and friends (1 week each in July and December)
A fully remote environment (comfy pants are a must!)

How to apply:
Click “Apply For this Job” and fill out the form on the next page to apply. We only need your application, writing samples, and answers to the questions listed—no cover letter or long forms required.
With regards to your writing samples, we’re looking for a few links to B2B, SaaS, tech, or marketing work that you’ve written in the past. These should be examples of your best work. Feel free to also include a portfolio, if you have one, but the specific examples will make it easier for us to review your application.
Our team values passion, kindness, and curiosity over titles, work experience, or formal accolades. So if you’re on the fence about applying—especially because you think you lack all the qualifications—please go for it.
If you have any questions at any time, or need assistance with your application, please reach out to Nicole Kohler, Operations Manager, and she’ll be happy to lend a hand.
We’re excited to hear from you!
