Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, (http://bme.gatech.edu) a joint department between Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering and Emory University’s School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA), invites applications for an academic professional with the working title of Director of Faculty and Student Training. The position supports Coulter Department faculty and teaching assistants’ engagement in evidence-based state-of-the-art pedagogical practices that create learning environments in which diverse students and instructors can thrive. This position will be appointed through and located at the Georgia Institute of Technology.ResponsibilitiesSpecific functions and responsibilities include:Teaching the equivalent of three sections of undergraduate or graduate required courses per year. This number may be reduced to allow for participation in sponsored research projects.To design, implement and assess the impact of training activities to develop the knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviors needed to be successful teachers.To ensure the department’s innovative pedagogical approaches and curricular programs are implemented with high fidelityAdvise the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning on matters related to faculty teaching performancePartnering with faculty instructors to conduct graduate student ethics training for all BME homeschool graduate students, including conducting in-person Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training sessions for second-year Ph.D. studentsAssist PhD Programs Manager with tracking graduate student ethics and TA training for all BME homeschool graduate students, and monitoring compliance with Georgia Tech and Emory University administratorsCoordinating graduate student teaching assistant (TA) training in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning (GT) and the Laney Graduate School (EU) for all BME homeschool graduate studentsSetting TA expectations, performing classroom observation, mediating instructor/TA conflicts, and reviewing TA evaluationsRequired QualificationsA terminal degree of Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent is required for this non-tenure-track academic faculty position within the job category of Academic Professional (exact rank will depend on the education, experience, and specialization of the selected candidate).Preferred QualificationsA terminal degree in engineering education; engineering; educational psychology; learning sciences; cognitive psychology; or a related field. For those with terminal degrees in engineering, other degrees and/or experience in how people learn is necessary. For those with terminal degrees in non-engineering disciplines, other degrees and/or experience in engineering or engineering education is necessary.
