The Vice President of Marketing (Aquarium Marketing Coordinator) will assist the Chief Operating Officer (Aquarium Operations Administrator) in the planning and development of all marketing and public relations activities for the Virginia Aquarium in order to drive attendance, enhance the brand, and increase overall revenues.
This position will manage the marketing and public relations operating budgets to effectively achieve all program objectives; develop marketing, social media and public relations priorities, goals and expected outcomes; and develop and monitor effective performance indicators and metrics to adjust strategies, goals, and expected outcomes, as needed.
This position will also lead efforts to develop and apply summative market research and predictive analytics to understand changing market dynamics and to effectively target marketing and communications strategies. Work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to enhance communications, develop partnerships, identify marketing channels, and build connections. Create travel and tourism related publicity opportunities.
This position will direct, supervise, monitor, and evaluate the performance of the Department’s marketing and public relations staff, including the PR Manager, Brand Manager, Graphic Designers, Photographer, Videographer, and the Department’s advertising agency of record.
May be required to occasionally travel overnight for conferences, professional development, and to represent the Aquarium at other functions. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, public relations, tourism, business administration, management, museum administration, or related field; plus six (6) years of related experience; or any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to ten (10) years utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a current and valid driver’s license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.

Preferences:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, tourism, business administration, management, or related field, as well as experience in a supervisory/management role at an aquarium, zoo, or attraction. Experience creating and implementing marketing and public relations plans, and experience developing and monitoring complex budgets associated with marketing and public relations programs. Experience administering Facebook or Instagram for a business, organization, or group.
