Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in research modeling thermochemical gasification of waste-based materials to inform liquid fuel production platforms.
Investigate the fate of ash from waste-based fuels at temperatures and pressures representative of gasification systems under oxygen, steam, and oxygen-steam reactive environments.
Investigate the interaction of ash with common fluidized bed materials, carriers for chemical looping delivery systems, and catalysts.
Investigate control strategies for vapor phase inorganic species using solid sorbents and selection of unit operation state points.
Support research on innovative reactor systems, controls, and methods for production of biomaterials and bioenergy products.
Participate in the preparation and execution of project summaries, reports, proposals, and technical manuscripts.
Supervise, train, and evaluate junior level staff and students as needed.
Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in engineering.
Professional experience conducting research, development and testing of thermochemical biomass conversion systems.
Professional experience modeling thermochemical biomass conversion systems.
Professional experience sampling and analyzing material from waste-based fuel production systems with focus on characterization of heavy metal and inorganic element content.
Extensive experience using the FactSage software to model biomass based energy systems.
Proven research experience as demonstrated by publication of innovative research results in peer-reviewed and archival scientific journals; ability to generate independent research reports/publications and participate in proposal preparation.
Demonstrated leadership in developing and applying laboratory safety rules and procedures, and maintaining safe working conditions.
Proven ability to work effectively with senior researchers and staff, and industry personnel.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Professional experience conducting laboratory evaluation of biomass materials for pyrolysis and gasification potential.
Record of established international collaborations conducting biomass energy research.
