Job Description : The Coordinator of Competitive Sports is an integral part of the Student Life Rec Sports team committed to a vision as leaders in developing lives of balance, physical activity and well-being. The Coordinator of Competitive Sports develops and administers policies and procedures for the effective and efficient operation of a comprehensive competitive sports program; supervises and mentors Competitive Sports Graduate Assistant(s); recruits a diverse staff and hires, trains, motivates, mentors, supervises and evaluates all student staff; serves as liaison to assigned sport clubs; reserves facility space for competitive sports programs; administers captains meetings, treasurers trainings, presidents’ meetings and other competitive sports trainings/meetings; assists in teaching sports officiating classes; serves as a representative of the department and program at various meetings and events; administers the software used in the competitive sports area; some evening and weekend work required.
40% Recruits a diverse staff and hires, trains, motivates, mentors, supervises and evaluates all student staff; supervision of graduate administrative associates within the competitive sports program; develops student leadership opportunities; refers participants to various trainings and leadership development opportunities; coordinates programming needs with marketing, fundraising and member services staff for assigned sports; responsible for biweekly payroll duties; ensures hiring paperwork is accurate and complete and submitted through human resources system; ensures appropriate credentials are filed for programs staff.
40% Develops and administers policies and procedures for the effective and efficient operation of a comprehensive competitive sports program; purchases, maintains and distributes equipment needed for programs; oversees the intramural officials hiring, training, scheduling and development process; develops relationships with sport club participants, leaders and coaches; assists in the creation of the intramural sports calendar of sports, events and tournaments; reserves facility space for assigned sports; administers captains’ meetings, treasurers trainings, presidents’ meetings and other competitive sports trainings/meetings; represents department at extramural opportunities within competitive sports at the local, regional and national levels.
15% Manages day to day usage of IMLeagues, SubItUp, DoSportsEasy and other software used in the area; troubleshoots issues, trains student staff on software programs and makes recommendations for additional software purchases; manages ipad inventory and synchronization with IMLeagues; creates materials for staff training; compiles reports using data from software systems on a regular basis.
5 % Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required: Bachelors degree in Recreational Sports or related degree required or an equivalent amount of education and experience; two years of Intramural or Sport Club experience (GAA time counts).
Desired: Masters degree desired; experience with coordinating leagues, tournaments and events in Rec Sports setting desired; experience in training or teaching skills needed to officiate various sports desired and experience supervising student employees desired. Experience using IMLeagues, DoSportsEasy and Sub It Up desired. Requires successful completion of a background check.
Starting rate for this position is $21.15 – $23.07/hour.
