Then, let us tell you more!How does training work?The position of “orthodontic assistant” encompasses a wide range of “on the job” trained skills. With training, responsibilities and tasks will include instrument sterilization and management, untying, inserting, and replacing wires, delivering retainers, teaching patients about braces-friendly eating and brushing techniques, cementing appliances, documenting records, assisting Dr. Smaha when placing or re-bonding brackets, and all the while, laughing at the joke told by your 10-year-old patient! Smaha Orthodontics team will begin your training with the most basic of skills and, over a series of planned weeks, introduce new learning goals as prior skills are mastered. Your eager focus, study, and commitment drive your success and will also impact increased earnings!What are the qualifications to apply? 1. Available to work Monday – Friday with some breathing room or flex time available periodically on a Thursday afternoon or Friday to work in personal appointments so as not to conflict with the patient schedule. No weekends! No evenings!2. Prior customer-service experience and being at ease (and enjoying!) conversation with anyone of any age. From toddlers to grandparents, we enjoy them all!3. The right background. Which of these descriptions matches to you? Candidates with prior orthodontic experience are welcomed to apply. Although a bachelor’s degree is NOT required, candidates who have earned a BS or BA in Exercise Science, Biology, Kinesiology, Health Science, Art Studio, or people-focused related major often enjoy driving their career into orthodontics. Resumes of candidates with stable work experiences demonstrating customer service skills and professional or personal interests that demonstrate fine motor skills and excellent hand-eye coordination are also welcomed to apply.4.
