Job Description : JOB TITLE: Public Affairs ConsultantSTATUS: Contractual /PRNREPORTS TO: Executive DirectorLOCATION: Child Advocacy CenterDATE: February 18rd2022Mission Statement: To serve children and families affected by child abuse through a multi-disciplinary partnership focused on safety, healing, and well-being. We envision a community where children are safe, families are resilient, and those affected by child abuse are empowered to heal and thrive.PURPOSE: Public Affairs works to hold local, regional, state, and federal governmentsaccountable to their responsibilities to those we serve while working to create a climate that is supporting of their needs. The consultant works in close partnership with the Executive Director and focuses their work on influencing public policies and maintain strong partnerships.Principle Duties include (but are not limited to):Public Policy:Develop and implement annual advocacy agenda, in partnership with senior leadership.Identify and track policies that affect survivors and service providers.Provide senior leadership counsel on agency position(s).Organize staff, community, and stakeholder-based advocacy efforts.Write content for internal and external audiences; ensure messages are consistent withmission, values and current strategic plan.Coordinate meeting logistics; prepare briefing documents; develop key messages andtalking points; conduct follow up.Government Relations:Position Canopy as a trusted, expert, non-partisan source of information.Manage relationships with representatives of city, county, state governments,Northeast Ohio federal delegation as needed.Enhance engagement through formal communications and stewardship.Plan and coordinate special events, educational sessions, and community forums as needed.Represent Canopy at meeting, when requested by Executive Director.Leadership & Administration:Participate in relevant community collaborations and coalitions.Work to further the mission of Canopy Child Advocacy Center.Act as advisor to Executive Director; offer accurate knowledge andinformation to assist in making informed decisions.Maintain public official’s lists and profilesOther duties as assignedQualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Professional experience typically evidenced by 5+ years of workingin the field of Public Affairs/Government Relations. Professional must have demonstrated written communication abilities as well as honed critical thinking and relationship-building skills. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, goal, oriented, self-starter, who likes to work with autonomy. Candidates with strong skills in creating written communications of various lengths are highly preferred.Hours of Work: Consultant, Services rendered via Contract.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Communicate with others in person, electronically or by phone on a consistent basis.Must be willing to be flexible with hours.Regular and predictable attendanceThis position description is not intended to be a complete list of all responsibilities, duties or skills required for the jobs and is subject to review and change at any time, with or without notice, in accordance with the needs of Canopy.
