Job Description : Summary
The incumbent performs a variety of semi-skilled work in parks and facilities maintenance, fee collection, and rules enforcement on a seasonal basis. Normally scheduled 40 hours per week; these positions generally work April through October; however, the duration of the season and job conditions vary by each park and facility location.

Scope of Responsibility
Individuals assigned to this classification are expected to perform a variety of semi-skilled work in park and facility maintenance, fee collection, and rules enforcement. General supervision is provided by the Park Manager or Facilities Supervisor and may also be provided by other higher level department personnel. Individuals will also be expected to operate small power tools and equipment including mowers, weed eaters and tractors. Individuals must be able to work weekends and holidays and, depending on park or location assignment, live in county supplied housing at least two nights per week.
Typical Duties
Park and facility fee collection and record keeping

Department rules and regulations enforcement

Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of park facilities

Respond to emergencies or special situations

Respond to questions or inquiries from general public

Perform custodial tasks in county buildings and Department facilities including sweeping, raking, cleaning campsites, litter patrol, etc

Education, Training, & Experience
Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above job description

Education/Training
Must be 18 years or older. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); prior experience and/or training preferred.

Experience
One year of experience working in a park recreation facility and environment preferred but not required; Requires generalized knowledge and skill in the operation of small power and hand tools used in performing routine grounds and building maintenance, cleaning and sanitation tasks; Requires the ability to communicate effectively, be courteous, tactful and patient with the public. Knowledge of basic arithmetic is required. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and work semi-independently without close supervision.

The working environment for Seasonal Park Ranger is at County Parks, Fair & Facilities Department location requiring working in all types of weather and temperature extremes. The duties require walking on various types of surfaces including but not limited to: rough terrain, sitting, standing, ability to maintain balance, climb stairs, ladders and inclines, ability to kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, push, pull, twist; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, gripping with hands and fingers; shoveling, digging, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate a passenger vehicle; to hear voice conversations and alarms; close, far, side vision with night, color and depth perceptions. Requires working outside, in remote locations, exposure to sunlight, outside temperature extremes, dampness, working in water, exposure to noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, solvents and oils; exposure to noxious weeds and plants. May require wearing employee to wear hard hats, safety glasses or goggles, ear plugs or muffs, rubber or plastic gloves, safety shoes and rubber boots.
