Position : Supervisor, On Board Services – Talkeetna (Alaska Railroad)

Job Description : * * This position is eligible for a recruitment bonus of up to $2,000 * *
Supervises and oversees the daily On-Board Services business operations on passenger trains, including customer service, Tour Guides (on the south end), and onboard contractor services. Works on planning the logistics for special event trains and charters; rides on the trains and ensures these events go smoothly.

Talkeetna Based Supervisors

Works directly with the conductor on the Hurricane Turn train. Works all customer service and on-board issues not related to train movement. Works directly with Talkeetna depot staff to ensure train is clean, stocked and ready to go. Reports problems and issues to Manager, On-Board Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

High School diploma or GED is required.

Work Experience

Six months of experience in passenger operations or front line customer service experience required. Six months of experience in a lead or supervisory role is required.

Certification/License Requirements

Ability to obtain a CPR/First Aid certificate within 30 days is required. Ability to obtain a Food Handler’s card within 30 days is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous railroad operations experience is preferred. Previous experience in the tourism industry is preferred.

The following briefly describes the main benefits available to regular employees of the Alaska Railroad Corporation. Actual benefits differ by bargaining unit.

Retirement Plans
ARRC Pension Plan – Participation is mandatory. You are automatically enrolled in the Plan when you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Employees contribute 9% of their Earnings on a pre-tax basis. The Railroad is exempt from participation in Social Security; however, Medicare Tax is withheld. Participants vest with 5 years of eligible Vesting Service which entitles one to receive a pension benefit at retirement age.

A new tier of benefits was added for new hires in the ARW and TCU represented unions and for non-represented employees July 1, 2015.

Tier 1 Description
Normal Retirement Age is age 62. The formula for a monthly Normal Retirement Benefit is the sum of:

2% x Final Average Earnings x all Credited Service, PLUS
0.5% x Final Average Earnings x Credited Service earned after 2005 and after completing 10 years of Credited Service.
(Final Average Earnings are computed from the 3 highest consecutive years of Earnings.)

Tier 2 Description
Normal Retirement Age is age 65. The formula for a monthly Normal Retirement Benefits is 2% x Final Average Earnings x all Credited Service.

Early retirement, survivor and disability benefits are available for vested participants, although the benefit levels differ for Tier 1 and Tier 2 participants.

401(k) Tax Deferred Savings Plan – Participation is optional. You may enroll once you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Depending on the bargaining unit, there may be an employer match.

457 Deferred Compensation Plan – Participation is optional for non-represented employees.

Insurance and Flexible Spending Plans
All plans are optional except the RR Dental Plan for bargaining unit employees.

Health Insurance Plan
A comprehensive health insurance plan, self-insured by the ARRC and administered by Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, with medical, prescription drug, dental, vision and hearing components. Coverage is also available for the employee’s spouse and dependent children. ARRC and the participant share the premium cost. Eligibility after 90 days for bargaining unit employees, and date of hire for non-represented employees.

RR National Dental: mandatory dental-only plan for bargaining unit employees (covers dependents also). Employee paid.

Life Insurance: Basic, AD&D, Supplemental and Dependent Life. Employee paid.

Flexible Spending Accounts: health care and dependent care. Employee paid.

Paid Leave & Holidays

Vacation Leave –accrual per bi-weekly pay period:

Represented Employees
0-3 Years of Service = 4 Hours
>3-15 Years of Service = 6 Hours
>15 Years of Service = 8 Hours

Non-Represented Employees
0-3 Years of Service = 6 Hours
>3-15 Years of Service = 8 Hours
>15 Years of Service = 10 Hours

Sick Leave: accrues at 4 hours (Represented) or 2 hours (Non-Represented) per pay period.
