Cultural Expert is a temporary position that will provide hands-on during and after school programming
options for students around learning and practicing cultural activities. Activities will include, but are not
limited to, carving, sled making, sewing, cooking, and other outdoor/indoor subsistence activities.
Working with small and large groups and individual students; incorporating community resources; and
creating a vibrant learning environment in which all students are engaged.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function

satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities

Education and/or Experience:
Graduate from high school or general education degree.
Have knowledge in the Iñupiat culture, language, and history.
Have knowledge of carving, sled making, sewing, cooking, and other outdoor/indoor

subsistence activities.
Experience working with small groups, large groups, and individual students.
Supporting the whole child intellectually, spiritually, socially, culturally, emotionally,

physically.
Demonstrating continuous professional growth.
Adhering to District policies and regulations.
Support the development of ongoing partnerships that enhance student learning with an

emphasis on partnerships with parents and community.
Support the implementaiton of district curriculum; provide instruction that promotes language
development, skill development, knowledge acquisition and reasoning.
Practicing and applying Iñupiaq pedagogical principles.

Language Skills:

Communicate (speak, read, and write) effectively in the English language.

Understanding and speaking of some conversational Iñupiaq required.
Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, staff, and public.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must hold a valid Alaska Driver’s License.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Help to organize school-based community cultural activities.
Developing ongoing partnerships that enhance student learning with an emphasis on

partnerships with parents and community.
Collaborating with colleagues and community/parent volunteers.
Be willing to demonstrate continuous professional growth.
Willing to perform other tasks and other responsibilities as the supervisor may request.
Must be able to pass a background check.
