Job Description : Looking for a reliable, independent, safety-oriented individual who wants to experience one of the most beautiful backcountry riding there is. An appreciation for the outdoors, horseback guiding experience, and excellent people skills are a must, as well as ethical horsemanship and integrity. This is a dream job in the heart of Alaska, surrounded by Denali National Park, with a very small business (owner plus one am and one pm wrangler) that is all about giving our guests the best possible experience while keeping the well-being of our horses and staff in mind.This is a seasonal position: late May/early June till September 18th.Schedule: 40 hour weeks (6 -10 hours a day); 5 days a week with two consecutive weekdays off; overtime availablePay: $16 to $21 per hour; overtime is time and a half; $2 end of the season bonus; tipsFree Housing: available on site (rustic – dry cabin) and pet-friendly; there is a refundable $300 deposit, given back at the time of staff departure if there is no damageResponsibilities and DutiesCatching, grooming, saddling and bridleing horsesLeading interpretive horseback tours with up to 4 guests on a back-country trailsAble to pony a horse (with a child if he/she can’t control their horse) while ridingBasic veterinary care, feeding and wateringGeneral upkeep and repair of tack, gear and fencesAbility to lift 50 pounds (saddles, grain bags, hay bales etc.)Working outside under variable temperature conditions and in rainWilling to educate yourself about Alaska and Denali, it’s history, fauna and floraAssessing guests’ riding ability and pairing them with the best matching horseOn slow days taking horses on tune-up rides (all my horses are “guest horses” but they have different personalities and you are expected to get to know them)Trail & fence maintenanceOther duties as reasonably requestedQualifications and SkillsHigh school graduate or equivalentMust be at least 21 years of ageExcellent horsemanship and customer service skillsPrior experience in riding and care of horsesPrior (commercial) guiding experienceValid driver’s license and CPR/First Aid certificationSafety oriented (safety is our number one priority for both riders and horses)Ability to work independently with minimum supervision in relatively remote locationJob Types: Full-time, TemporaryPay: $16.00 – $21.00 per hourSchedule:Weekend availabilitySupplemental Pay:Bonus payTipsAbility to commute/relocate:Healy, AK 99743: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)Application Question(s):Are you over 21 years old?Experience:horse: 5 years (Required)commercial guiding: 2 years (Required)License/Certification:First Aid Certification (Preferred)Work Location: One location
