Job Description:
The Assistant Director position, located in the Education Abroad (EA) unit of Texas Global, is dedicated to supporting internationalization for designated academic area(s) and will be responsible for oversight and training on a specific element of unit operations, including faculty-led and customized programs. The Assistant Director leads a team of professional staff and reports to the Director of Education Abroad. Individual will meet regularly with colleagues, faculty and senior leadership in the assigned college, school or units (CSU).

Responsibilities
Oversee faculty-led and customized programs on behalf of Education Abroad. Conduct annual faculty-led proposal process. Act as primary liaison to Texas Global Financial Services, Student Accounts Receivable, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and the Office of the Registrar as relates to faculty-led programs. Lead cross campus faculty-led programs working group. Responsible for facilitating associated contractual processes in conjunction with Texas Global Contracts manager. Ensures that recruitment, advising and admissions practices for Education Abroad faculty-led programs are aligned across academic area teams.
Provide leadership to advance the unit goal of aligning programming and administration with academic areas. Responsible for a specific academic area and the associated team. Build and maintain professional relationships with key CSU leadership, faculty, academic advisors and administrators; serve as a resource to develop new and maximize existing programs based on the needs of the CSU. Guide and assist direct reports in these mutual efforts. Develop a strong understanding of the CSU goals related to internationalization, identify opportunities for academic collaborations and conduct activities in support of mutual goals. Work directly with CSU to integrate education abroad into academic degree plans. Lead the development and expansion of curriculum integration. Identify and develop new international programs based on the needs of students and/or academic partners on campus.
Responsible for managing a limited portfolio of education abroad programs and a limited student caseload. Case load may include: reciprocal exchange, affiliated, faculty-led and/or internship/experiential programs. Duties include but are not limited to: program development, student advising, promotion and outreach; faculty and staff support; assessment; participant screening and selection; pre-departure preparation; coordination with overseas partners; budgeting, financial aid and associated administrative tasks. Manage and evaluate existing education abroad programs in countries as assigned. Lead the team in advising and recruiting for all program types.
Establish and maintain a marketing and outreach plan for assigned academic, geographical region and/or specialized area in conjunction with team. Collaborate with CSU leadership, EA leadership and Texas Global Communications to determine effective and efficient means of communication. Lead marketing and outreach strategy and supervise development of outreach materials. Assess impact of marketing and outreach activities to ensure continual refinements and improvement.
Recruit, advise, select, and prepare students for international opportunities. Create advising tools to increase the transparency of program options. Design and manage information sessions, pre-departure orientations and returnee sessions, and promotional events individually or as part of a team. Liaise with Global Risk and Safety as necessary and appropriate for health and safety preparation of students and emergency management.
Serve as part of the Education Abroad leadership team. Share responsibility with other Education Abroad assistant directors for professional development of staff and strategic planning for the unit. Work collaboratively with Texas Global staff regarding cross-collaboration on program design and student programming. Collaborate with Education Abroad teams in Business, Engineering, Law and individual departments as necessary.
Coordinate administrative processes with EA academic records administrator, TXG business analyst, TXG IT, and TXG scholarship coordinator. Review contractual agreements for exchange, faculty-led and customized programs coordinated by the Education Abroad. Analyze and report on data trends and student performance for a cluster of academic units. Identify and propose improvements to current procedures and operations.
Support other administration functions in the unit as needed and/or directed.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrate in application materials and interviews the following competencies, typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and five years of relevant experience: effective problem-solving skills and sound decision-making; results-oriented; strong organizational abilities; the ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively prioritize; a customer focus which includes students, faculty, staff and external partners; composure in stressful situations; and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience developing and administering faculty-led and customized programs. Experience initiating, developing, and managing programs or projects, including assessment of program effectiveness in meeting intended objectives. Experience developing and managing budgets, negotiating contracts, and/or managing complex projects or functional areas. Supervision of staff in a professional setting. Ensure professional demeanor in all activities and interactions. Significant experience living, studying, or working abroad. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in a foreign language. Academic degree in international education or a relevant discipline. Demonstrated creative and relevant marketing knowledge. Experience developing or administering international programs. Experience working with diverse groups and with college students or similar populations. Experience working with university faculty. Knowledge of student health, safety and security issues in education abroad programs.
Salary Range
$71,000 non-negotiable
